Babylon 5 Rules.  In fact it's the only show I ever recorded.

I love SG-1 and the 200th episode poked fun at Far Scape.  I haven't laughed that hard in a long time

Bab5 is one of the best si fi series, i've seen...

After watching the first two seasons of B5 and seeing how well thought out story line was, it completely blew away anything star trek had done at that time.

It's sad that two of the main actors from the series have passed away...  Looks like they'll never finish off the remaining stories...

As for comparing the old BSG with the new BSG that's like trying to compare night and day.  The new BSG is 10 times better than the old one.   The story arc's are much more complex.  The characters are much more complex.  But you can only run away from the cylons for so long before it becomes stale.  That's one thing both the new BSG and old BSG have in common..  However it's still one of the best si fi shows out there.

Now if ya'll want to talk about stargate SG-1  that ran for 10 seasons that is one si fi show that kept things interesting....

I watched the mini/premier of the new BSG, and they took everything GOOD about the original BSG and ripped it out to replace it with sex,

I agree. I want the cheezy special effects, hair helmets, and goofy robot dog back.

Actually, that was state-of-the-art effects for TV at the time, rivaling some movies, too. So I guess in your opinion the original Star Wars' effects were cheesy as well? :p

I loved the show at the time, just like I love the show now.The old series is hard to watch now.  I wish I still had my toy Viper from the original series though. It had this tiny choke hazard pilot and missiles.:D

If you're just into special fx and shiny objects, then that's one thing.  But if you're interested in compelling stories and strong plotlines, then the new BSG fits the bill.

Actually the original had a very interesting concept going with the War of the Gods storyline, and the general mythology they established. It suggested they were preparing to set up a much broader Good vs. Evil battle. In fact, I liked how they tied the Galactica universe into historical Earth mythology overall, and it would have been very interesting to see how the original series would have ultimately played out had the networks not chickened out and screwed them over, even though the series performed VERY strongly (gee, why does THAT sound familiar. Scapers, can I get a HELL YEAH?).

Then again, the end of BSG80 and early drafts/concepts I've read about implied there were plans that would have redeemed the series if they hadn't been canceled (including bringing Starbuck and Apollo back, and a continuation of the War of the Gods arc).

I really need to read the Hatch novels now.

I have never seen the new BSG but in the opening scene there is a ship in the fleet that looks like the Firefly or so I have read.  Anyone that has seen both want to let me know if it's true.  :)

will they give anyone in the crew a sense of humor this time.. that is the burning question.

farscape was horrible...  Firefly was ten times the series of either it or bsg.

BSG has been a mixed bag for me. I like the gritty retro feel, but the plot has strayed in shark jumping areas with the "Lee as Lawyer" and "Chief as Union Activist" bits, to name a few. Wasted airtime. Overall I give it a solid B -- far better than the original and the disappointment I felt when it aired. All fired up as a kid for Star Was meets TV, only to have it be more disco in space.

They all pale compared to the Glory that was Rome :)

It may be in there. I know the old school Enterprise made an appearance as part of the fleet.
