Post from Lazs decrying it as whiny and girlish (while saying he liked some of the first few episodes before it got preachy) in 3...  2...   1....

Bah.

FarScape was the best SciFi series ever.

I watched the mini/premier of the new BSG, and they took everything GOOD about the original BSG and ripped it out to replace it with sex, changed characters who didn't need to be changed, and hinged everything on a poorly-constructed plot device that wholly departed into ludicrousness.

So...  guessing you didn't bother to check out any more of the series?  Consider, you may be missing out on something great.

Please, nostalgia is clouding your judgement.  Judgement that was probably based on wanting to see the exact samething, but in Hi-Def and computer graphics.

There is enough vanilla in cinema and tv these days.

chair... you don't agree with my assessment ?

All shows run their course and get stale.   for various reasons.. they shift direction or you get tired of the characters or..  they simply run out of ideas.

This one took a shift in direction that is boring is all.

I agree.

As for BSG, its been downhill since the first season except for one or two shows. Pretty much the reason this is the last season.

Let's see....

Original BSG, despite the hopeless nature of the fleet's situation, was still optimistic, about humanity banding together for their common survival.

The remake everyone was pissed off at each other's throats the entire time. NO ONE was even the remotest bit likable.

The original Starbuck was a scoundrel and rogue, a lovable Han Solo-type. The new (female) Starbuck was just an insolent, insubordinate *****. The altercation between her and Col. Tigh at the beginning of the remake mini illustrates this perfectly. For that matter, why the HELL did they make Starbuck a woman anyway? I read the interviews, they wanted a character to have sexual tension with Apollo. Well they frelling DID. What happened to Carina and Sheba?

Hell, for what bloody purpose did they need to make Boomer a Cylon fembot?

Apollo was just a jerk in the remake. His attitude towards Adama in the remake was completely out of place and unbelievable.

The original Baltar was FAR more interesting. Self-serving, twisted and maniacal. And he got neutered and turned into a poor sap getting led around by the balls by the Terminatrix.

Then there's the plot itself...

Ok, yeah, so the computer virus was an interesting twist and illustrates the more cunning Cylons of the remake. But the fact that the Colonial military is SO integrated that there's no fail-safe should something happen on one ship thus crippling the ENTIRE fleet is ludicrous. Haven't these people ever heard of firewalls and anti-viruses? Even your typical, run-of-the-mill fully-integrated business network today isn't going to COMPLETELY go down just because of a virus shutting down the Domain Controller, because the individual workstations STILL have the capability to function totally autonomously, even if they can no longer access shared or networked resources. Is the entire Colonial fleet running dumb terminals? AND the fact that Adama was ALLOWED by the Colonial high command to refuse to upgrade the Galactica's computer systems to integrate them with the central defense system is BULLCHIT. The Galactica is NOT Adama's ship. If the fleet orders you in to dry dock to upgrade, you report to drydock to UPGRADE, or you get replaced by someone who will. Contrived, weak and totally unbelievable.

Oh, and then there's the weak incident where to throw suspicion off himself, Baltar fingers a random guy on the Galactica's bridge to be a Cylon imposter....only to discover at the end of the miniseries the guy actually IS a Cylon imposter (I won't get into the fact how FarScape handled the Harvey mind clone of the series villain WAY better).

Also, why with FTL flight capability does the entire Colonial military still use physical round-based weaponry?

I'm amazed you summed the new BSG from watching the mini-series and the premier.  From my perspective, I grew up with original as my older siblings and parents loved it.  You're getting hung up that the new series ISN'T the old one.  Take it from the perspective that this is a completely different show.  The original argument we had in this thread wasnt comparing the original to the new one, but rather overall sci-fi's on tv.

Few years ago I caught some blip on Sci-Fi channel about the first season, so I downloaded the first show '33', immediately I was hooked an thoroughly enjoyed the new take on it.  The following day I had downloaded the entire season and watched every episode back to back.

I didn't even get to see the miniseries until I bought the season on DVD, which was a while after I had downloaded the entire first season.  The mini-series was good, but not as good as the TV season IMO.

You're entitled to your opinion as am I.  I've seen both series, and you've made a judgement on characters that you haven't seen develop through the series.  This will probably escalate to the type of which is better, the original Star Trek, or TNG?

I've tried to watch on a few occasions. Claudia Black is easy on the eyes, but I just can't get past the muppets.
