Anyone have any advice for a simple PDA?

I'm not looking for a $400 fancy dancy deale-whooper.

Just something to keep simple appointments and/or grocery lists and be able to sync with Outlook at home and office.

I don't know if you're looking for a phone too, but I'm very happy with my blackberry pearl 8130. Can easily do all that, plus send and receive emails and surf the web. Easy navigation, and a lot smaller than most PDAs or traditional blackberries.

I just ordered the Palm TX from Amazon. Might be a little fancier than you're looking for, but well under $400.

Had Handspring Prism for years until it got busted and am upgrading from Handspring Visor.

Expect to replace the rechargeable battery after 2-4 years of use. So plan on either replacing it with a new model if you like, or you can order replacements. Some PDAs have a battery that is easy to replace. I.E. They slide in, similar to a cellphone battery. However, the majority of PDAs have batteries have them soldered or wires directly to the circuit board (surgery on PDAs can get quite time consuming and delicate). So depending on how handy you are, you can order a battery and replace it yourself, or stores like Batteries Plus will replace it for you (for a free usually).

I'd buy screen protectors for the screen. They're relatively cheap and help keep scratches etc off the screen.

What I would really like is the Nokia 810 , but I can't justify spending $400 for an electronic note pad.

One of the things that I really like about the Nokia is that it uses embedded Linux for the OS.

I like the palm devices. Never could get email to work on them and never found a really satisfactory way to use MS office documents on them, but for basic contact info, calendar, to-do lists, etc. I really like mine. The exact model isn't terribly important, except that you need to buy one that has all the capabilities you want up front, otherwise you'll end up buying a more expensive one later. But it sounds like you might be perfectly happy with one of the less expensive palm models.

Best bang for the buck

This one never needs batteries. And you dont have to worry as much about anyone stealing it
