Scoring/Stats causing issues?
« on: January 28, 2008, 05:05:10 PM »
Hi All,
Many of the problems being discussed partly result from the persistent scoring and statistics.   Most, not all, care somewhat about their stats and this will influence the type of fights they are willing to engage in and some of the frustration that is channel 200.

I think it would be good to experiment for a month without persistent scoring and stats.  The stats can reset each time someone logs in.  You can review your last session stats off-line with the web pages.

An alternative would be to give the user a reset button so each individual can choose to reset their stats at any time.  There can be qualification that you can't reset your stats if you are going for top spots such as best overall for the month.

I like the alternative solution the best.  Why not give each individual the choice of how they manage their stats?   A high enough percentage (not all) of the players will start resetting their stats and engage more freely in fights.  It takes some pressure off.  Maybe people will just reset stats rather than blowing up on 200.  Bad night, just reset and forget about it.  With the current system, you have to live with that bad night for a month.

The downside is that it will lead to more suicidal tactics.  It might be harder to take bases if people keep upping.  People may auger more also.

Just a thought on something that could be experimented with for a month or two.  I'm happy with the game either way.

The people I see blowing up on CH200 each and every day are the ones claiming not to care about score & stats at all ;)

Just Hide scores till the end of tour. Then let us know how everyone did.

Ranks, perhaps.

I like to see how many sorties I've actually landed and how my hit % and my kill/D ratio are doing. I don't work at it but I like to see how I'm doing.

Rank doesn't matter but I don't think taking away our percentages will stop anything.

The people who piss and moan on 200 will always find something to continue pissing and moaning about.

1) i agree.....most everyone does worry about their score to  point......

2) this i think you're only partly right in.....as i've said before in other threads......in fighters, of course i like to win the fight as much as the other guy.....but the main fun for me is the thrill of the fight....furballs get my heart pumping.....  put me in a bomber.......and it's all about geting my ordinance on target and getting home....score is a bonus..if there were no score, i'd STILL try to get my buffs home.....and i think there's a lot of other pilots out there that feel the same.

Gaming the game has come to MW now compliments of Majbuzz. We had a good fight going between cv and 18 so he dive bombed b17s in then bailed  lol.

MW far outstrips those types in LW arenas.

Opps,

EDIT:

I think it would be nice to have the whole "rank" aspect taken away, but the personal stats, ie, K/D, K/H, Hit%, etc kept so as to have something to base progress with.  I really can't see how the positive aspects of "rank" outweigh the negative ones.  In fact, could someone enlighten me on the positive aspects of rank?

I used to play a lot of Halo 2 on XBOX Live a few years ago.  Exposed rank totally ruined the game.  There were "stand-byers," modders, and bridgers, which by themselves ruined any fun there was to be had, because they wanted a higher rank.  A parallel of some sorts can be drawn with that and AHII, although I would like to state how well HTC has kept his serves, in my experience, totally "cheat" free.

You used 2 words that truly define the reality in this paragraph.  "Partly" and "Some".  Where as "Many" emphasises a misnomer.

In actuality "many" is the prolific repetitive text of the few over the silent majority.  Being caught low and slow, ganged where they are more than likely to be ganged, face shot by a newbie or just plain can't catch a runner will inevitably be a precursor to the 200 tirade.   By your implication most players are scorers which is not the case.  Implication leading to assumptive reasoning of why a guy runs or just won't fight the fight.  Why there's back handed insults towards the foe.  Goading, chastising or face saving doth not make every recipient a scorer.

"Partly" and "some" in reality can be attributed to the scorers over the vast majority of incidences.  Simple maths here.  Many player over some scorers. Yer, OK someone could can spout off about percentages over blah blah but the fact remains the same.  Some guys won't fight your fight or stay and spray.  It's my experience 90% the problem as you call it is by,  forgive the expression, ..."no names".

As to the switch score off idea I'm left pondering about CV command because in my mind, that's the only thing score is good for.  Stats on the other hand are useful but like score it to can be manipulated by those inclined to do so.  Trading the word scorer for stat in future insults will not influence anyones flying ability or lack off.;)

wow lynx.  my head hurts after reading that :)

leave the scores/stats/rank alone i say.  its just another aspect of the game i personally find enjoyable.  for me its a challenge to see how low i can get my rank.  but seeing how its hard to run from a fight, i'll never see #1.  oh well.  thing is, i'm having a blast trying.   :)

I'm recommending a reset score/stats button that can be pressed at any time.   There would be no change if you never hit the reset button.   It would be the same as today.  You can't use the reset if you want to go for honors at the end of the month. Basically, hand over the management and resetting of score to the individual player.

An analogy of what I'm proposing is like traffic.  If 10%-20% of people have a day off for an obscure holiday then I typically notice that the traffic to work flows very well.  If 10-20% of the people stop caring about stats, perhaps that will lead to more agressive fighting overall.

Think about it.  Would you play slightly more aggressive if you were resetting stats after every session?  I think there is potential here for better fights.
