Me and my children got to see one fairly close last evening.  It went about 300 yards from my house and hit an industrial complex and then went on to smash the Hickory Ridge Mall in Memphis.  Very awesome beauty in those things!

I live in Southaven, MS by the way, about 3/4 mile from the Tennessee state line.

Interesting...

About a month ago a tornado hit my county.  My friend came over and told me there was one, and sure enough we were on the tornado warning.

So, I decided that if we saw the tornado run for our lives into the basement.  (My parents wern't home)

I have to admit though, there were tons of freaked out girls on MSN talking to me saying "I love you Travis, incase I never see you again!"

It was a riot, then I saw the tornado about... oh, across the street?  Then I ran into my basement.  Luckily, nothing in MY town was harmed, but it was still pretty cool/scary/interesting/amazing/funny at the same time...
There was once a saying that goes "If you put an infinite amount of monkeys in a room with an infinite amount of typewriters, eventually they will produce something worth reading."

The internet has proved this wrong.

The tornado that hit this mall was the one that went over our house.

Where I live we have our fair share of tornados. I've only seen one and it was a monster. I was looking at the odd colored sky and thought what a funny looking cloud, not thinking it was a tornado. Went into a convenience store and when I came out. Yikes, I saw it landing. Wow. It went from Indianapolis to Ohio, following I-70. Chased one of my co-workers home.

When I got home I told my kids that at the bottom of that very dark cloud is a tornado. It was awesome and scary.

Sounds like you got lucky, good to hear you or your family wasn't hurt. Those things don't give much warning specially at night.

I had a close call like that here in Florida, not this Christmas but the one before. We had a Tornado hit the building I live in and went right over it. (3 story) It tore up the roof and busted something like 25 windows I think it was.

Good thing it's a old historic Spanish style building built back in the 1800's so it was as brick and mortar as you can get. Just the pressure alone knocked a big 10x8 ft section of plaster off my living room celling. Then some in my bedroom.

Luckily I was still on my way home from visiting family because it was Christmas day.

While in the Navy, we had a port visit to Puerta Vallarta.  While we were anchored a water spout missed us by about 100 yards.  Got some good pics, jus t wish I could find them.

Yikes!  We were in the middle of it too SkyRock, we're up in Hendersonville.  We went to the basement at once point.  Got off school today, I'm not sure if it's just local damage or damage to the school itself.
