Very true Krusty, however I think what we're trying to have happen here is the default skin changed making it harder to spot the GVs and have the icons of GVs invisible to planes.
I don't recall the last time I flew over a city looking below and seeing tags

But you could tell it was a truck, right? You might make out the color, too? And you could tell the direction it was heading?
In the war, only one side used a panzer, one side used a sherman (P.S. This often had huge white stars painted on top -- a dead giveaway) and usually they were on opposing sides from each other, heading in only one direction.
In the war, in real life, you could easily tell* who was with what side based on what you saw. Same in the air. You saw 2 booms you KNEW it was an allied P-38. It's that simple. However in here, the enemy also flies your plane, drives your tank, could be mixed up in the middle of it all heading in any direction at any time.
This isn't a war simulation. It's a flight simulation. That being said, certain concessions MUST be made in the name of gameplay. One of them is icons. Without icons, tags, SOME indicator, this game would be an exercise in futility (as would EVERY other game like it). It's a simple matter of knowing who is a target and who is not. It's not a puzzle game, it's an action game. If it becomes a puzzle it has failed completely. The question you need to ask is not "How can I change the game so that guy doesn't see me" but rather "how do I react now that I know he HAS seen me?"
Oh, and if you don't want to be spotted stay under the trees. They hide your icon.
*= that is, if you saw them at all -- not counting camo, stationary deployments inside buildings, etc)
P.S. tank crews were scared to death of attacking planes for good reason. They could be killed by 'em. Whether or not they WERE killed is another matter, it was a very real
threat. Think about that the next time you don't want to be "bothered" by planes attacking your tank.
