My wife can be pretty darn cool
« on: February 08, 2008, 07:57:07 PM »
For about a month I have been trying to organise a weekend getaway with my wife.  I planned to spoil her rotten...nice suite in a hotel in Toronto, massages every day, shopping (for her)...the works.  I was trying to work it as a total suprise and just whisk her off after she got back from dropping the kids at school on the Thursday 14th Feb and stay to Sunday.

She didn't want me to get her a Christmas present last year because she really didn't have anything that she desparately wanted.  Her birthday was in January and all she wanted was for me to take her out to dinner and so I figured Valentines Day, which happens to be our anniversay, would be the perfect time to do something special.

But, having 3 kids to deal with while we go away for a dirty weekend isn't easy...as I found out.

Not sure why but noone wants to look after 3 children for us...not even relatives.  In fact ESPECIALLY not relatives.

lol

We could hire someone, but the last time we did that it didn't work out too well and it was almost as expensive as our flights.

Anyhoo...I realised I couldn't do it as a suprise.  I needed her help in figuring out what to do with the kids.  We settled on flying her mother and step father in from Toronto (which isn't as bad cost wise as it appears because the wife's sister's husband works for Air Canada and we all get cheap flights) and they offered to let us use their condo, which is right on Yonge street.

Sweet.  I could still do everything I planned and in fact the condo had its advantages over a suite in a hotel in terms of room and the fact that we'd have a full kitchen as well as a balcony (I still smoke and to do so in a hotel I'd have to go up and down elevators and get changed each time....my plan was to stay in a bathrobe for the four days as much as possible...yea yea, I know I need to quit)

But, tonight my plan was totally scuppered.  The wife's step father had some medical issues and has a doctor's appointment on the Friday we were going to be there....and Air Canada is booked solid for the cheap tickets.

DOH!!!!

So, offhandedly I said "Well, if WE can't go....can I?"

She gave me a quizzical look and I said "Darren (my best friend) and I could go skiing for the weekend."

All she said was "Yea...why don't you go...you've been pretty stressed at work and need a break."

SCORE!

Funny how things work out sometimes.  Turns out my buddy was being pestered by his girlfriend to go home to Quebec City that weekend, and there is some civic holiday on the Monday following V-Day so we will plan around that...he satisfies his girlfriend's desire to go home and doesn't miss an extra day off work.  Makes no difference to me, so I'll leave on the Friday and come home on the Tuesday.   I won't even miss V-Day or our anniversary.

Can't wait....I really need some time off.  I had a total of two days off last year and 10 days the year before, not including business related trips.

Having said that though skiing is a whole lot more work than sitting around in a bathrobe and I'll probably need a rest when I get home knowing how we ski from the opening of the lifts to the turning off of the night skiing lights...but damn its fun.

Yay me!:aok

Mt. St. Anne here I come.

(While typing this the wife came in and said she was going to go to Crissons, a jewelry store here) tomorrow mornig at 9.00am.  She read that there is a 50% off special storewide in the paper....uh oh!!!)

What, the jewelry store thing or that she will want something in return?...which still amounts to the jewelry store with my wife.

I don't care about that man.  Whatever she spends she deserves.

I'm going skiing!

I give up...

Wait, are they tree's?

Oh, so that's what I'm NOT supposed to hit...  I guess I've been doing it wrong all these years, and I never even knew it!

I think when you get home, you'll find most of your belongings are in the garage.

Dont come up here.  Last time you did, you made the winter snow stop for weeks  :)

Last year (September), me, missus, and 2 young daughters had a holiday in Germany.
We rented a "wohnmobil", - a house-van, and went driving for a week.
It was quite a show, great fun, but a bit stressy at times.
Next time, I am thinking of a boat-trip, taking more family members on the journey. Target: England.

2+ kids, and dirty weekends are almost out of the question:D
(Still made it to Lithuania with the missus last year:D)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Dammit Curvy....

My wife and I are having our 28th Wedding Anniversary on Feb 29th..Leap Day.  Neither of us have ever gotten out from our kids either.. 3 kids, we can relate..and to be truthful have never seen Burmuda.

Gilligan if we were closer we could have worked something out.

*sigh*
