Whats with the disconnects lately?
« on: February 10, 2008, 12:04:30 AM »
I know it's not always the ISP I have. I'll be on with a buddy and use skype and both of us are kicked off the game at the same time. This has happened a few times tonight. Is there something like a program that we can download or some sort of fix to this at all?

the internet is a fickeled thing ! You can download PingPlotter. Its a free program you can use to check your connection through the internet. Install it and then use the addresses Skuzzy has posted in the sticky at the top of the thecnical Support thread. Then run the ping for 15 minutes or so pinging every 5 seconds.

This will show you the route, and the time in milliseconds to the HTC servers and back. Anything under 200 is "sweet" and the lower the better. More important is "steady" with no packet loss. Also, you and your "buddy" might be routed throught the same node on the internet, when it craps out, or dumps you to save bandwidth like Comcast has been doing, you'll both get loose your connection, so it "could" be your ISP.

Using Skype while playing the game is asking for a disco.  Using any application that make uses of CPU intense operations such as sound and video CODECS, is not going to create the most stable environment of the game.

The fact that both of you are kicked off while running Skype pretty much gives you the best clue as to why you lost connection.

I have downloaded pingplotter and will put the picture below.  Also, as far as skype and getting kicked off the game. If we get kicked off the game but not kicked off skype how can that be our isp kicking us? We don't lose connection to the internet just the game. This is why I thought it wasn't our isp.

Those "Level3.net" are bad news. Thats your ISP taking the cheap way out and you'll have issues. Running other programs WHILE running AH2 isn't a good idea. Flight sims use alot of CPU power, and other programs trying to take CPU cycles away from the game could cause it to crash to desktop due to low resources

Yip,  Your spec is way above mine and I get better frame rates.  I use FSautostart and it made a big difference for me.

You need to get that Ping Plot to your ISP.  Also note, the packet loss shown in the last hop, is actually happening on the return trip through a different path with the same problem at the Level3/RR interconnect.
