999000 - Buff on a mission
« on: February 12, 2008, 10:49:02 AM »
So I was taking off in an F4u-1a figuring I'd go hunting knits who were hording at time. Lone behold 999000 is taking off behind me with tatertot.

I figure i'd escort these too figure out what they were up too. 4 assists trying to clear their 6 later (which assists means I dove in, but spitfire, la7 etc lost wings by time I got into firing range). Anyhow all I remember next was these 2 set of buffs circling an airfield and shooting planes down. I go home to land.

Adonai has landed 2 kills in F4u-1a

999000 has landed 6 kills in B-17G
Tatertot has landed 5 kills in B-17G

New fad being devloped here, Vulching with buffs! I tried it in Ju88s but after 2000 rounds put into a N1k I still didnt get a kill :(

I've lost alot of planes to 999000 over the years. He makes you think twice about "Oh sweet, buffs. Easy kills!".

Yeah, I did this the other day too.  It helps out when capturing a field.  All the 'uppers' see nice juicy bomber targets and they will all head for you.  So if I don't shoot them down, the friendly congo line will help out since I'm about 3000 feet or less.

999000 is one you approach with a cool head, a full beer, and hopefully a friend or seven.

Personally I'd much rather take on most fighters than attack heavies.

The only view allowed while in external mode should be forward view.

If I see enemy buffs carelessly circling at low to med altitude over my own field, I first check the roster... :noid

It's quite common nowadays to have folks up bombers and try to do what 999000 does, but here's the kicker: Even if they fail, they make you waste your ammo, the attackers cycle out, but there's no replacements, and the folks finishing off the town get hosed thrice over.

Keep that in mind folks: You see bombers upping at a capped field, let them go. The ammo you have has to last until you capture the field!

That's not a very wise option. Even the bombers have guns that can kill the goons carrying troops or the troops themselves.

Dunno what this has to do with the topic. Only having a forward view in F3 mode wouldn't do anything for a buff. In case you don't know the external views for buffs is to simulate having gunners in each position to give con reports. Since we can not have but 1 gunner this helps out the buff driver. Not many Bomber pilots (very few in fact) are as good at gunnery as 999 and tatertot. So shooting buffs down in general is fairly easy. I see no problem letting them have there external view for spotting threats since there visibility is so limited in the cockpit. If we were to be able to have a gunner for each gun position on the aircraft I may re-evaluate it though. Not like you are useing external mode when you are firing your guns at an enemy con. It's just there for spotting purposes.

Well, obviously if they dash for the town smack 'em down. Most I see just start circling their own field at 200 feet trying to get you to waste your ammo.
