I think in RL, it was pretty..........well......umm m........"random"?
Too many factors affecting bomber intercept: weather, daylight/nightime etc. These factors are eliminated in AH. In RL if a fighter sweep spotted you (they didnt always have radar), you're in for a fight. If not then you in for a fight during egress. I believe a similar randomisation exists in AH. If the enemy is smart enough to observe darbar movements and gets high expecting 30K buffs, well then your in for some fun. If not, you got lucky until you turn around. You're bound to run into somebody on the way back, maybe even a Me262? :devil

By also setting up an opposition mission, you don't have to make it a "suicide or furball fly until you die mission".  For example, you can set up a mission to bomb a countries industry center (i.e. HQ or any of the strat factories) and then have an opposition mission to defend these areas.  Both have concrete goals to achieve and would be a step above the "let's create a mission to milk run an undefended base" missions.

ack-ack
The mission as you described is a suicide mission because you cannot control the numbers involved.  Let's say you have 12 bombers and 8 escorts, the horde of interceptors (including Me-262s and Me-163s if you're near the HQ) that would arise would easily wipe out the buffs.  If you think otherwise, I challenge you to try it.  Post your intentions well in advance on the forums, run the mission and then after the bombers get slaughtered, do it again next week and see how many buff drivers you get returning.  Very quickly guys will clue in that they are just target drones.

It's really easy to fly a milk run (bomb a front line airfield from 30,000') or get all your guys killed (bomb a rear factory with Ju-88s at 12,000' flying across radar).  Neither one of these are challenging or fun.  It's much harder to split the difference and fly a mission where if you fly and fight well you can survive, but if you don't you take heavy losses.

My objective is to run a fun mission for the guys in the mission, not everyone else.  That means going into harms way resulting in a loss rate of about 20%.  Any less becomes boring, much more and guys will stop showing up.

Lookouts on the ground were Spotters. They would radio info to command.

As already stated above though, this "Mission" will have limited engagement with no real threat of failure. Nowhere near historical but might be good for the folks who would like to learn to bomb. Being in the main arena does have it's problems as stated.... numbers could be scewed either way.

Good Luck on your run... shoot some film and post it if you can. You bomber jocks turn down you air conditioners to get more immersion.  :aok

Hey Guys

Just a FYI for those that think these are "Milk Runs". I have flown at least 10-12 of these missions and my experience has been we always get a strong response from which ever country the Target is in. Keep in mind these missions do not fly to targets on the Leading Edge of the target countries area. The targets are always Deep in their territory. When they see a huge dar bar traveling 3 and 4 sectors deep into their area they take notice and engage. I have never experienced a "Milk Run" on any of these missions.

If these missions are run in other than the MA's an oppossing force mission is always run as well. However ENY creates issues so they have been forced to run them in the MA's where the effect of 20-30 players logging in to a country dont wreak havoc on ENY.

These missions are put together by Trukk and I have always found them to be very exciting and fun. I have found the people flying them in both the Bomber groups and the Fighter Escort groups to be very friendly and competitive players. Which always results in a good time for all. I usually get kills when flying these missions and sometimes I actually land them. IMHO these missions are a great change of pace from the typical 5k Rodeo and Conga Line style of play generally experienced in the MA's.

They dont happen quite often enough IMO but I understand because Trukk and the others take the time to organize and put them together. Which is greatly appreciated by me because they are always well run. It is not easy to put these together on a regular basis IMO, at least at the level that Trukk and Company do.

So my advice is to fly a few of them with the HARM people and see for yourself. I think you will be glad you did.

Later,
KayBay
