MISSION UP: 7:45pm Eastern
BRIEFING: 7:55pm Eastern
LAUNCH: 8:00pm Eastern
TEAM:  Knights
THEME:  9th AF Tactical Bombing (B-26s escorted by P-51Bs)
ARENA: Posted in this thread 30 minutes before launch

Come and join us for a fun mission.

HARM Readme

HARM missions are "themed" missions where we fly a realistic mission profile, try to accomplish the objective and make it home alive.  By theme I mean historically based, for example an 8th AF theme could see B-17s escorted by P-51s.  An Eastern Front theme could be IL2s escorted by Yaks.

The missions are flown in one of the late war arenas, this generally limits us to the mid/late war aircraft to be competitive.

The missions will normally be a bomber with escort setup, which makes it fun for both the buff drivers and the fighter jocks.

If we are flying strategic we will fly just one mission, if tactical we will try to fly two missions.

The missions are not about capturing bases, the focus is on flying and surviving a realistic mission not the war game aspect of AH.  At the same time, if another group of players are doing a capture mission and the timing is right, we could fly in support of that mission.  For example, a tactical bombing mission could bomb an airfield/town just before a capture mission attacks it.

As much as we would like to be able to plan ahead, the nature of the arenas means that plans may change.  For example, if we are planning a naval mission but the only arena with carriers is full, then we will have to fall back to plan B.

These are lightweight missions in that all you have to do is show up and take the mission, instructions will be given on the flightline (but don't be late, the missions WILL launch on time).

We will rotate through the chess pieces on a monthly basis.

I think these types of missions are good ideas, especially the "historical" side of them. :aok

Edit:  You should try to do one of 38's escorting 25's on the big map with lots of the island bases. :aok

Hey Trukk,

Always like flyin with HARM. Wish you guys would run this on Saturday nights. This conflicts with a Family thing so I rarely can make  your missions.

To those unfamilliar with Trukk and the gang,

These are a great bunch of people and if you fly with them on these missions you WILL have a great time. This is a great diversion from what every you do in AHII on a regular basis. So take the advice of somebody that has participated in many of these, JOIN IN THE FUN !!!

Later,

Will these be Alliance style milkruns, or will you post targets to inform the historically-accurate opposition? :P

If you make these missions historically accurate and are actually willing to have opposition, I'd really like to take part. I can switch countries to whatever is needed at the time...

Nice to see missions that actually want to fight someone, unlike some *cough* Alliance *cough*.

While Stang was spying..err I mean observing an Alliance milk run...err I mean mission, he managed to take this photo of an Alliance B-17G.

If these missions are done like Delirium says, with an opposition mission to counter it, then these could be great fun.  I'd be all over one with the P-38 set in the one of the island maps.

We will not be posting targets, they're not suicide or furball "fly until you die" missions.  The goal is to fly a realistic mission that is challenging but survivable (for the most part).  These objectives can be managed fairly well by how deep you go into enemy territory, how much radar you cross and how high you fly.

By also setting up an opposition mission, you don't have to make it a "suicide or furball fly until you die mission".  For example, you can set up a mission to bomb a countries industry center (i.e. HQ or any of the strat factories) and then have an opposition mission to defend these areas.  Both have concrete goals to achieve and would be a step above the "let's create a mission to milk run an undefended base" missions.

Every HARM mission I've flown in has had enough opposition to not have to post where it is heading.

For some reason this thread seemed to have started out sounding great then slowly wallowed down to sounding more like a milkrun.

Historic type misions would have met with enemy aircraft and with luck "might" have made it to drop point. This one is starting to sound more like you want to see a few enemy but not so many that you might not make it. Too bad historically they did not have that luxury.

Am I reading this wrong or is this a fact.

I think the better question is, are you going to annouce which country you are hitting?  Historically speaking, it wasn't much of a stretch for the Germans to know that the B26s and escorts were attacking them

And I kinda doubt the Japanese were worried about a 9th AF raid :)

It would at least allow folks to try and provide some opposition if they so choose.  I'd think that for the history aspect you'd prefer to see folks in 109s and 190s defending then a bunch of N1Ks or LA7s.

But either way, more power to ya for trying to bring a little history in to the game :aok
