Questions from a newbie
« on: February 24, 2008, 10:35:27 PM »
Hey guys I got a few questions:

1) How can I change my ingame name? I just subscribed but my ingame name is something like 22430......

2) How do I know wich airfield to take off from? Where should I help my team's effort?

3) How do squads work ingame?

Gonna post more questions in the coming days ;)

Thanks in advance...

1 - mail HTC support, give them login, current and desired new ingame name, state that you don't mind loosing all your score & perk points

2 - go to http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/, learn about reading and interpreting the radar map.
And do not worry all too much about how to contribute you teams war effort, concentrate on learning the basics first ;)

3 - http://www.hitechcreations.com/ahhelp/squad.html
also see essay on squads on trainers' webpage

1) Not quite sure on this but I think you have to call/email HTC and ask for a name change.

2)Look at the map, where ever the biggest dar bar is (the green and red lines at the top left of all sectors) and that's where the biggest fight is. That doesn't mean its the most important spot on the battlefield though as there could be a smaller force somewhere else trying to take a base but need a goon driver. Best way to know where help is needed is to ask on country channel.

3)Squads are just a group of crazy, AH2 lovin, possibly drunk guys/gals. Fly around with different people and find out which squad is right for you. There are some who do tons of mission, some that just play for fun, and all sorts of other types of squads.

Also greatest tip someone can give you right now, besides reading with the trainers page, is to actually get with a trainer.  The learning curve is steep here, but it makes all that much more rewarding and FUN when things finally begin to "click."  Getting with a trainer makes that happen much quicker, and if you do, you'll probably already be ahead of 70% or the Late War population.  Just bite the bullet and try to get with one, even if you don't want to.:aok

Oh, and have fun with your new addiction, hope to see you in the skies!

Thanks for the heads up guys!

Im coming from WWIIOL and IL2 so Im used to aircombats.....

What I dont get is why should I mail Hitech to change my ingame name? Why dont they give us that "freedom" when we subscribe?

And regarding squads, most of the time I fly german planes, Do you guys know any team-oriented german squad that uses tactics and communications?

More questions:

1) Can I change the Miles/Feet settigns to Kilometers/Meters ?

2) Are there any arena with more "realistic" settings, like limited icons, cockpit view only no externals, limited radar, etc ?

TY :aok

Your allowed that freedom when you create your acct. To change name they actually have to cancel out the old acct and create a new one. Its just the way things are done here. Give them a call, I think you'll find they are great to work with.

Lots of German based squadrons, keep an eye open in game, and you might check out the squadrons list on the HTC home page.

Nope, everyone is on miles/feet, icon range is in yards.

Only arena with full external view for fighters in the Training Arena. If you want short icons, limited radar I suggest you check out the AvA arena.

When you first sign up you have the "option" to pick a name.  I guess you chose not to. Having the option to change the ingame name when ever leads to "shades" of all kinds and more trouble than its worth. It may also have to do with the way the game stats are tracked. Either way, its the way it is and thats that.

There are a number of squads that fly german iron almost exclusively. Check the roster during the times you fly for squad names. Most of them are "JG" something or other. The reason I say to check the roster during times you fly is you want to fly with a squad that flys during the same times you do. No point in joiming a squad that gets together mostly in the middle of the night when your sleeping.

No you can not change from US to metric. The only planes that have external views are buffs. This simulates "many sets of eyes" from all the manned gun positions.  You can turn off icons if you like, or just have friendly icons if you like, limited radar can be achieved by dropping a bomb on the radar tower at an enemys base :D

You're going to want to get involved in Special Events as soon as possible. Yes, the AvA does have shorter icons and more limited radar, but I have a feeling the non historical plane matchups will disinterest you.

Special Events range from single frame "snapshots" to weekly squad ops to multi frame open scenarios. All of these are historically based matchups, with heightened realism and generally more talent among the playerbase. You will also see a tremendous amount of planning going into the latter two examples I gave, resulting in a great degree of structure, which sounds like something that also might make the events more enjoyable for you.

Check out the Special Events forums of http://ahevents.org for more information

Other than that, welcome to the game. The MA's really are a lot of fun, the radar is not too out of control and icons are not too gamey (especially since all sides have access to the same planes). But for a little more realism, it would be those special events.

JG11 JG54 are a couple just off the top of my head that fly nothing but german planes. JG11 a little more on the communication side and teamwork.

Stampf is the CO of JG11

Storch is the CO of JG54
