I can't recall seeing anyone saying anything positive about starbucks here in the o'club "community", but it is a huge chain. Makes you wonder what kind of users starbucks have vs the ww2 flying sim addicts.

One thing I've noticed about Idaho is the proliferation of little drive-thru coffee places. I enjoy the names people have invented for these little shacks....

Pony Espresso
Brewed Expressions
Daily Perks

There is one called Java Chicks, I'll need to check that out sometime.

Here ya go Nilsen:

One really good thing that I do have to say about Starbucks ~ our local store is a great supporter of our troops. They donate on a regular basis their jugs of coffee to our local USO (who attends deployments/redeployments) which is served to our Soldiers as they are either leaving to or arriving from deployment.

Out of gratitude for their direct support of our soldiers, I do buy $25 Starbucks gift cards & give those away.  But those purchases are entirely out of appreciation for Starbucks support of our soldiers here at Fort Hood ~ and not at all a reflection of how I think their coffee tastes. :)

Lots of folks/businesses have the "We support our Soldiers" signs in their windows.  But when I see someone who supports in more than just a sign in the window, I always try to give them my business out of thankfulness.

I make my own darn coffee. On a rare occassion like when I go with the wife to a mall, I might fortify my eyelids with an iced coffee mocha at some coffee cart.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Good coffee but expensive. Mcdonald's has just as good coffee but cheaper. I think people like Starbucks for the sense of connecting with other people sharing a common experience. Much like concert goers.
Here we put salt on Margaritas, not sidewalks.

I enjoy watching the look on their faces as they struggle with the decision on whether to 'educate' me, express disgust at my ignorance, some combination of the two, or finally to just acknowledge that a venti or tall or whatever is actually just a 'Medium'.

That's what I hate about them.  They try and develop their own culture (it goes beyond being just a 'brand').  I generally avoid them, but when I have to go there it goes something like this:

Me:  I'd like a small coffee.

Brainwashed Employee:  You mean a 'tall'?

Me:  No a small.

BE:  Okay, well what we have are 'talls'

Me:  Well what size is that?

BE:  (they point to the smallest cup).

Me:  Okay, I'd like that...the SMALL one.

BE:  Okay, that will be $2.35

Me:  (shaking head)...Two dollars and thirty-five cents for a small coffee?

Where I used to work, there was a small Mom and Pop coffee and sandwich shop that was great for mid-morning coffee and lunch.  Coffee fresh brewed every 45 mins, ground it themselves, tasted great.

$1 Smalls.  Hope they're still in business...

I get my coffee at a local mom and pop. Tastes fine and costs about a buck 50.  Starbucks is too harsh, and Dunkin DOnuts tastes burnt. Tim Hortons for me tastes like they filtered it thru a soapy dishrag.

I need to open a mom & pop coffee shop. The town we visit monthly (family) doesn't have a coffee shop. I'll borrow old photos from all the folks in town from when it was just blooming & do the whole thing on the town's history. :) Have nice cozy porch swings & NO BISCOTTI'S.  Same families have lived there forever. I bet they'd like that as much as I would.

Make sure it has a drive through, nobody ever went broke appealing to laziness.  As exhibit A I give you: Salad in a bag.

There is a Tim Horton's just outside Dearborn, MI. I have been there. It was pretty good, one question about Canada's Taco Bell's..since when did french fries go with tacos?

My ex was a big Starbucks fan.  Got me into it.  I don't order coffee there (I can't see paying $3.xx/cup) but I do buy the beans and brew it at home.  I suppose it's still more expensive than what I used to drink (Hills Bros. or Folgers) but not terribly much more and I'm used to it now after 12 years.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
