JU 87 siren
« on: February 26, 2008, 01:55:05 PM »
I think the Ju 87 needs to have a siren sound file because in World War II, the real Ju 87 had sirens when the Luftwaffe bombed their enemies and they would turn on their sirens to scare their enemies. I think someone should make a sound file of the Ju 87 siren if its possible. If we have to, we can create an early model of the JU-87 with the sirens.

Only early in the war, Poland, France, did the Ju-87B models have air sirens. The model we have in-game did not have it. It was taken off the Ju-87Bs after a while, and all later models had them removed or left off entirely.

Krusty,

I agree with you, so i now suggest we make an earlier model of the Ju-87 with the sirens on if its possible.

A later version would be needed if anything. A Ju-87G2 with a combination of 20mm and 37mm armor peircing cannons would be an awesome tankbuster.

As far as I know the wing armament was dropped, so it had only the two 37mm guns firing forward.

None of the 87Gs with the 37mm cannons ever carried 20mm. It was either or. The Gs could not carry any other weaponry and even had the dive flaps removed. It was a specialized version. The G with the 20mm was a basic stuka that was up-gunned. It wasn't very common compared to the other versions available.

As for the earlier models: They didn't have much different capability from the one we have in-game. The stuka didn't change much between B and D. Different engine, different greenhouse, but performance almost the same. It would be redundant, I would think.

Just add the "Dive Siren" as "Wind" file.

Not entirely correct.  Some Ju-87B units  removed the sirens because they reduced the performance of the already slow and vulnerable Stuka.  However, it wasn't until the D-3 version was produced that the Stuka was built without siren fittings.  This was due to the realization that the sirens no longer had the psychological impact they once had like it did during the Phoney War and the invasion of the Low Countries and France.

I had assumed, since the G-2 was based on the D-5, that it had retained the 20mm's in the wings. Guess not.  Thanks for the info.

There were no 20mm wing mounted cannons on any of the G models.  Only the D-5 carried the 20mm wing mounted cannons.

On an interesting note, the Flak 18 37mm cannon used by the G-1 and G-2 were considered obsolete anti-tank guns on the ground but yet mounted on a plane, the Flak 18 became one of the best anti-tank weapons of the war.

If you call increased sluggishness and lack of maneuverability insignificant changes, then yes, little changed between the performance of the B and D models.

My mistake, I thought it was the G-5 with 20mm, not D-5.

There are some sound packs available that have a siren sound. The problem is that it resides in your sound folder so only you can hear it.

I would like to have the siren sound too. But I want the driver of the GV I am diving in on to hear it too.
