I fail to see how Harry would make British soldiers more of a target - the average Teleban is not going to think twice given a chance to shoot an ISAF soldier...it would've been like the german fighter arm only targeting the 445th BG because Jimmy Stewart may have been aboard

I wonder if it was a "slip" or a way to get him rotated back early. The news did state that he was out on the lines as an air forward observer calling in air strikes. In his interview he said it was nice just being a regular person for a while. Perhaps the only time he'd ever have that.

I read that a German and Australian paper had the story and ran it.  Then Drudge found it.

Its too bad they decided to run the story.  The prince was serving his country, annonymously as he had so wanted to do.

He's been there for last 10 weeks.

So it was Drudge whom leaked it? What a bunch of A holes. I give that kid a ton of respect for going over there and being as much of a typical low level grunt as he could realistically be.

Granted they are never going to put him in "the action" but I still think it says a lot about the kid.

Well not glad that he is in harms way but that he is willing to be there.

How long has it been since the last leader or major figurehead of a major country has been in battle?

Very Kingly

:aok :aok

Harry's uncle, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, apparently had a habit of placing the Seaking helicopter he piloted in between HM warships and incoming exocet missiles in the Falklands.

You can say what you like about the British Royal family, but they have never shirked on military duty.

To be honest, I think Harry and William have had it rough since their mother died. Sure they have money and priviledge, but they have a media circus continually dredging up the whole Diana conspiracy thing - and the recent public inquest was appalling. They've never struck me as spoilt brats.

I'm not surprised he went to Afghanistan just to get away from it.

Who was that?
Now, not his dad, nor grandparents in the fathers line, and old Lizzie? naahh.

Hmm, so the mother's line? Di's granddad perhaps?
Still, young Harry also has the honor of being quite somewhat related to Hitler's absolute enemy, a guy with a middle name the same as his mothers surname :D

(You all know what I am saying right, and forgive me for mistakes, this is out of memory and I am not British....)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

The ancestor in question had chosen to live in Germany prior to WWI. About half way through the Great War, the British royal family changed its name from Saxe-Coburg to Windsor to assuage anti-German sentiment. At this point, this relative was stripped of all his British titles and was effectively stranded in Germany - he fought on the Eastern front to avoid fighting the British.

In the inter-war years, the rise of socialism threatened his German titles (and maybe he lost them, can't remember). He joined the Freikorps and was a big supporter of Hitler's - who promised to re-instate the German nobility. He appeared on quite a few propaganda films and was pretty much used by the Nazis. He was also a key proponent of a brokered peace between Britain and Nazi Germany.
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

Dowding is referring to Charles Edward Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, who was a grandson of Queen Victoria and not strictly speaking an ancestor of the current royal family but rather a somewhat distant cousin.

Drudge, and the rest, were very wrong for breaking this story. Sometimes the sign of a good journalist is the story he doesn't let out, at least not at the wrong time.

It used to be not that big a deal.
Most people recognised the difference between doing a parody as a gag and glorifying Nazi ism.
Example Arte Johnson From Rowan and Martains Laugh In

Even Jews did it

Hell, Brooks even came out with  a Hitler Rap Video

Everyone saw the goof for what it was. A goof.

But that was before everyone decided it was ok to start whining about everything.
I am convinced people will actually look for reasons to "be offended" in our politically correct word. because deep down. Many people desire to be wetnursed and pandered to.

Now we are damned near fearful over doing anything because there might be a chance of "offending" someone.

Which as Arte Johnson would say is

"Verry interesting...But STUPID"

Agreed.

Yahoo headline this morning was that his tour is over.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
