Aces High via Sony Playstation 3?
« on: March 07, 2008, 10:31:17 PM »
Seriously, any chance of a special Aces High arena or version for Sony Playstation 3?

In searching for the best Blu-ray player for the money, I was surprised to see many recommendations for the Sony Playstation 3.  Testimonies were so complimentary I bought a 40-gig version to match with my 1080i 42-inch rear projection HDTV.

It's fabulous.  Not only Blue-ray disks, but all older CDs -- commercial and homemade, movie and still photo -- look better than ever, and connected with only component cables (my best connection is DVI but no Playstation cable uses that, as far as I know; HDMI is best and available, but my TV is four years old and doesn't have HDMI 1020P).

Couldn't resist trying a couple games, Warhawk and Call of Duty 4.  Talk about immersion!  What fun.  Stunning sweep, graphics, and sound.

Seems as if Aces High could make a ton of money and greatly increase its sphere of influence if it could add an arena or maybe several or even a separate version for access via the Sony Playstation 3 (and maybe the other main game devices too, e.g., XBox 360 and Wii).

Of course the Playstation 3 controller and the Playstation 3 are arcadish.  So what?  They're FUN.

Imagine Aces High quality and authenticity EASILY playable and accessible on big-screen HDTVs via popular state of the art devices like the Sony Playstation 3.  Seems to be lots of win-win for everyone.

At minimum, seems like a good idea to do something to make Aces High easily playable on large screen home entertainment units.  That could mean a small player and wireless controllers (yes, like Sony Playstation 3).  Some Aces High players have hooked their computers up to their large screen TVs, but many of us are too non-machine-oriented or lazy to try that.

There's also a great corresponding market for a wireless joystick that would more accurately control WWII planes on Playstation 3 and similar brands.

Well?  How many of you would be interested in something like this?  If you think it's not a good idea, say so.  If you like it, say so.  Either way, let's give Aces High management an early focus group indication of whether such a development might be worthwhile for Aces High as well as us existing Aces High players and customers.

you know how ace combat 6 for xbox360 comes with a joystick? well, i know this game is far more realistic, if aces was made into a game for ANY system (mabey NES, lol) you could add more controls, including pedals, throttle/rpm control, trim controls, and the sort. It would be GREAT for combat tour (two weeks baby!  :noid)  and probably online play as well (in the sense of some are using console, others compy), since im pretty sure that they are doing that with some first person shooters in the near future, but the one thing im afraid of is the SUPER FLOOD of squeekers coming in with it, think they are all cool by saying "roger" and "10-4" instead of "yes" or "ok", and other dumb watermelon like that....

*goes to the hardware store to by a WHOLELOTTA more mouse traps to stop the squeeking*

Halo, I think this idea, from teenager's perspective, makes good sense.  However, if you look at the "About Us" section of HTC's website, (http://www.hitechcreations.com/frameset1.html?about.html), they say
Quote
our goal is to keep the company small.  We know that with a singular focus and an experienced cohesive team that enjoys its work, the production, service, support, and overall level of satisfaction will be unmatched.
.

I don't if the above is at all accurate, but it seems to me that giving AHII a PS3 capability, and the above quote, would contradict each other.

Plus, this would lead to many more so-called "squeakers" coming to the game, and perhaps adding a more immersive atmosphere, whilst ruining the so-called "community atmosphere(?)".  Whilst many older/more experienced players complain at the numbers and tactics of these "squeakers/dweebs", let's face it - overall, this is a pretty good group of people we've got here.

The console systems use a different code base (or something :D) than the PCs. You can easily see that when you try to emulate them. Emulating the PS1/N64 generation of consoles is still at the skipped-frames at 25FPS stage on purpose-built gaming machines.

Basically, the game would probably need to be recoded to work on each of the systems, hence the massive production staff on any game...especially today.

Thanks, but em no thanks.

My buddy just installed Fedora Linux on his PS3. I don't know much about how it all works, but it seems to me that if you can install Linux on a PS3 then you should be able to install AHII. The PS3 would have no problem with running AHII graphics wise.

If you install Linux it should though one of the USB ports. I just bought a 250gb HD, I am going to swap out the HD in my PS3 and then I am going to install Linux. I found out today, none of this voids the PS3 warranty so why not.

I am not sure I will be able to run AHII on the PS3 though. I remember someone here on the forums was able to install AHII on a Linux machine. I am not sure if they used an emulator to run it or what. If they used an emulator then there is no way that I can run AHII, not in a playable fashion anyways, but I will try.
