Spitfire IX from the 316 (City of Warsaw) Squadron
« on: March 10, 2008, 12:50:00 PM »
I came across this spitfire a few years ago when I first started AH.  (up until recently, the boxing bulldog was my avatar)  The Spit was flown by Aleksander Gabszewicz.  Gabszewicz was credited with 9.5 kills with another 2 probables and 1 damaged.  Anyone interested in adding this skin to the game?  A few pictures below.  (more if somebody needs them.)

Any takers?
Thanks,
Obie

I'd suggest Wojtek Matusiak's book "Spitfire IX and XVI of Polish Airmen-Volume 1"  It's both English and Polish text.  He's working on a second volume as well that will have the story of the silver XVI we have in game.  I got to help a little with that bit.

Great profiles and photos of the Spit in question in that book.  The image in the post above is of MH434 painted up as that particular Spit but the actual serial was NH342

Yes Guppy you're right about "MH434".  The photo was taken in 2004 at the Chailey Air Show.  The pilot was Ray Hanna.  If you go to Ray Hanna's website, you can find a film of MH434 in flight.  Truely a spectacular sight!  I'll try and find that book.  Thanks for the info.

Obie.

Oh and Kazan I'm not sure what you asked.

Kazan, sadly no.  My grandfather was teaching me when I was younger.  When he passed away, I lost the opportunity to learn more.  I know only a few phrases and can pick out certain words.  (Grandfather was born near Krakow.  My grandfather's last name is Skowron.  Mine is Obuchowski.  I'm pretty much all Polish with a little bit of English too.  That's why the interest in Polish History.)

To answer your question though, yes that was the spitfire I was talking about.
