F4U Corsair model

Thought you might like to see this.  First model (other than R/C) I have built in abt 15 years!  Thought it turned out okay.  Hopefully I will improve when i build the next one.

 :aok Nice but....glossy paint makes it look like your a toolshedder. :lol When i used to be into models i did a lot of airbrush painting and always stayed away from any type of glossy look. I wanted my models to look like they'd been used in real life. Still it's nice and i'd title it "fresh from factory and ready for war". :aok

Anyone know why they had arrows pointing up on the tail, and one wing pointing forward?  Was that so the squids kept the right side up on the deck?  :D

Seriously, anyone know the history of that?

That looks pretty good. You did a nice job painting the canopy frame also, looks good.

Ripsnort, I am fairly sure it is the CV it is attached to's Identification.  I believe the Arrow was the Bunker Hill's insignia.

More: Specifically she's from VF-84, though the skull and crossbones on the cowling is a marking used by VF-17. We have either that particular aircraft, or at least one from the same squadron, as one of the F4U-1D skins.

wrongwayric: Actually, the aircraft SHOULD be somewhat glossy. Late-war Navy and Marine Corps Corsairs were painted overall Semi-gloss Sea Blue.

Honestly, its no specific aircraft.  It has markings from the decals in the box, but the paint job is my own.  Not sure if there were any "red cowled" corsairs around or not, or if it is correct for that particular aircraft.  This model is a 1D.  the card.... its an anniversary card from my parents.. lol must have fallen off my desk.  And no, the box is the next, next model... lol.. next one im doing is a 109F.  After that, it will likely be getting into the RC season so won't be much time for plastics.  Thank you all for the kind words on how she turned out.  Glad to see that people think it looks good! And as for display, she hangs above my desk with the gear retracted (this model has movable gear, flaps, wings, and canopy.)  The chair was for the pictures only ;) And yes, the paint job is a semi-gloss.  I thought they would all be flat paint as well, but I finally saw one up close and personal at the Dayton Airshow a couple years ago, and yep, they ARE semi gloss.  Had to redo my R/C model's paint job after that too.

If you really want to make them look great, Buy an airbrush. I recommend the Crescendo 175, shots everything with three different size tips with a small compressor. I bought my setup on line for around $150 US. I paint models, fishing lures, Duck Decoys etc.
