Floating Dots
« on: March 12, 2008, 01:33:14 PM »
Well I posted this in the bug forum, but someone deleted it, or I never posted it completely, so I'll put it here. If it needs to move, I apologise...

I was in titanic Tuesady and flying against rooks. Mainly Lusche, skyrock, kappa, and plantain. I flew over in a nik, and saw a 109f trailing me. I figured it was lusche. While I was looking at him, I noticed a dot moving around his airplane. It'd appear, and dissapear, and reappera right around his plane. I started rolling film, sayin to myself "what the hell is that!, some kind of hack super shield orb" lol... But I knew it was lusche so I figured prolly not.

Anyway I took some screenies, in case it didn't show up in the FV. But it did show up. I took screen shots from the film. What the heck is this? HTC? Anyone else seen this mysterious floating orb around uber pilots lately? It had me so focused on it's majical powers that lusche shot me down... or he's just that good  :D

Here's the screenies

Here's the film download:

http://www.mediafire.com/?zmn2vx2gnnt

When I get next to it in the film viewer it only seems to be like 3 pixles... It's kinda creepy watchin the film from my end looking back at Lusche.  :uhoh

Bnasty,

I saw these same dots, except I saw them hovering around a friendly that was about 5k away.  The dot would appear to shadow him and then disappear, then show up again a minute or so later.  It kind of looked like a bomber with one drone, but it was a fighter.  Also, this was not an uber pilot that I was seeing this happen to.  :lol

We call 'em "FOO FIGHTERS"... I've seen them 180 degrees away from friendlies, not just on Titanic Tuesdays... Also on TT I've seen "fantom" darbars appear in sectors FAR removed from any activity, friendly or enemy.

This just goes to prove that AH is modeled SO accurately that the alien observers watching the progress of WWII also show up.

I was seening it a lot also. I think its the clipboard from that player. I saw this happen a long while back, heck it might have been back in AW days. I was flying with a squad mate and everytime he opened his clipboard it would shoot out of his plane, back towards mine and then whip back to his plane. Maybe the same thing, may not be..... :noid

Those things bug me too. First time I saw them, I thought it was meatbomb or part of the plane. Then I noticed it wouldn't go down so I shot at it; that didnt work either so i gave up  :D

I remember the old ghost dots from the early days of AH1 - IIRC, they had something to do with that aircraft having someone else riding along with them - eg 'joined'. May not be the same thing??

yup, most likely someone was joined to the 109f and using external view to look around the sides of plane, hence the dot was moving around the outside of plane.

lag often causes the observer to "fall behind" the plane he is joined too also.

however it could also be hitech or any of the testers testing the "new planes" and since we have no models it shows as a dot? hence alot of reports about "FOO fighters" lately? :)

I wasn't joined by any observer. But I used the clipboard a lot during that fight, so

actually makes a lot of sense to me.

I see that flying dot sometimes on other planes too, but only on Titanic Tuesdays. Also there were some radar issues again yesterday, like non-moving friendly dot on map with accompanying darbar over a base for more than 30mins, static enemy darbars for hours in an sector without any activity; red dots far outside any radar range...

These dots seem to appear mostly on certain maps.

It's not a clipboard... it's not an observer.. it's just a bug.

These dots will also set off the DAR BAR.. very annoying when trying to participate in a NOE raid!

I've seen them start at a plane, then drop a little, and then zoom backwards at about 5000MPH.. I joke around about it being the plane "pinching one off".

I can't find any rhyme or reason to it, except that it seems to pick a player and stick with them.  It will appear, zoom away, and then a few minutes reappear again only to zoom away again, but this keeps happening over and over again with the same plane.

I have a feeling HTC has an idea what this is, I just kind of wish they would share their knowledge with us, as I'm.. SUPER CURIOUS
