The base pirce WILL NOT BE $40,000 for the new Challenger. 40K is the base price of the SRT8, the top of the line Chellenger with the hi HP engine. Think along the lines of Chrisler with the 300: ,  300 touring, 300 C, 300 SRT8.
My guess is that they are shooting for Mustang territory, so you might even find a 25K Challenger V6, surely a base V8 Challenger 28K, a Challenger R/T 33K ... and the "mighty" SRT8 for 40K.

My 2 cts.
Dat jugs bro.

13 MPG in city driving.   What a great idea of a car to bring to market as gas is nearing $4.00 a gallon.

No wonder Chrysler went bankrupt.

The local dealer told me he's already got every last one that was headed his way bought, with some people paying 5k over sticker.

Yeah. But with the 5 speed tranny, You actually gear really deep if you go much under 3.06. My '07 R/T Charger has 2.82's, but with all the gears, It doesn't hurt off the line. However, my car will lug in top gear if you're not careful...

I personally feel that Chrysler should have given a 6-speed manual option. My one beef with my car now, is the Tranny, and the governing electronincs.

The Transmission does not shift very fast, or very hard, even at WOT. It's a luxury-car transmission in the wrong application. The electronics' that govern the car limit a lot of what you can do, in terms of driving. If you drive hard into a turn, you can't use the engine's power to your advantage, because the traction control system cuts' the throttle to keep from spinning the wheels, so you can't induce any kind of oversteer with the rear-wheels. The Trac. control system hinders' the driveability of the car, IMHO.

Had the same problem. Fixed that with better valvebody and hypertech programmer.  It will now grab 3rds at wot.
But I wouldn't tear apart an 07  to fix it.

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ...... . $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon
And this is the REAL KICK ER...
Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon!

BTW...It's live, but with the over-zealous Trac. control, You can't really utilize it.

with the torque put out, 3.08s arent bad (my TRUCK has 2.73s in the back). A 6 speed man is offered with the SRT8. HOWEVER, its an open differential. Only thing keeping wheelspin in check is a computer.

Personally i cant wait for the new camaro. Itll be cheaper, lighter, have a independent rear suspension, and a limited slip. plus with cylider deactivation it should get 25 to 27 on the interstate.

Looks nice. I also like the charger ~ with the grill that looks like chain mail. And the little windows that look like slits in a knights visor.

Many LS1 users are already getting that and more.  Some Corvette owners are reporting 30 mpg highway driving.  Right now mine's averaging 24.  Not bad for having 330+ hp.
