Disadvantages of the F4U-4

--Performance

While certainly among the elite in speed, the F4U has at least one non-perk ride at nearly every alt level that is faster.

While a fairly powerful climber, esp for an American ride, quite a few non-perk aircraft clearly outclimb it.

MIL performance is well below WEP performance, and the F4U4 only has five minutes of WEP.

--Range

Range on full internal is (If I remember correctly) 22 minutes...this is the second worst range of ANY fighter in the game.

--Visibility

Cockpit frames somewhat obscure the forward visibility. Rearward visibility is among the worst in the game, only P-47D-11s and F4U-1s have a harder time seeing behind them.

--Firepower

6 fifties in this game is the textbook definition of "just adequate" for most shooters...nothing to write home about, certainly doesn't deserve perking on the basis of the armament.

--Turn

While all Corsairs are fairly elite as turners, there are still numerous non-perked aircraft that can beat the F4U-4 in an angles fight.

So there you have it...there is no single thing the F4U-4 does that some non-perk ride does not do better. Why then, is it perked?

P.S. And if any of y'all buy the above...I have some swampland in Florida I want to sell ya. Just "demonstrating absurdity by being absurd" here folks.

Problem is while I and some others will recognize you were being a smart-prettythang, there's a lot of people on the boards that would miss the italic print at the bottom of the page.  :rolleyes:

It is actually tied with the La-7 for the title of best fighter in the game.  

May actually be better now that the F4U's have been made so uber with the airflow code change.

In all seriousness, I agree with unperking it.  Wtih the La-7 unperked, there is absolutely no reason for the F4U or Spit 14 to be perked on the basis of performance.  The only thing the F4U4 truly does better is haul ord.

the difference between the f4u4 and the spit 14 is reli that there is another spit that is unperked that has several advantages not only over the 14, but over many other planes.  the logic that perked the 14 should have perked the 16 as well.  on the other hand, the -4 beats all other f4us hands down, in all areas exept firepower, and the -1c is perked as well for that!

see the problem here?

and dont even bring the LA7 into this, if anything should have perks on it besides the 262 and tempest, it should b that little beast, thought the -4 and -1c hogs have valid reasons as well.  i just dont c how the spit14 has a huge advantage over evryhing else.  its pretty much just good all around liek the LA7, exept it totally owns up high, and the LA7 does down low, to a negligably lower degree.


just un perk evrything but the jets, i've shot down tempys in a yak ffs....

LOL...-4 is the best prop plane in the game. Keep it perked.
Give the LA7 a small perk, same as M4?
Lower the perk by a small amount on the Spit14.

Now now, nothing I said about the 4Hog was untrue, charts can be pointlessly posted in regards to speed and climb data if anyone thinks I'm fibbing.
