If your in Command, Command!
« on: March 23, 2008, 10:28:28 AM »
Letting someone have their fun is what it is all about, besides it is their money and they should be able to play the way they want to.
Most of us agree to that up to a point, it is when the way they play interferes with the way we play is when it becomes a problem.

    Carrier operations
If you’re on the 5” guns and you see a flight of Lancaster’s coming straight at the bow, what should you do?

1.   Fire off a couple of rounds to see if you could hit them.
2.   Ask someone to turn the ship
3.   Turn the task group yourself.

If you find that someone has taken command of the task group, what should you do?

1.   Blast away with your 5” guns and anticipate the task group commander turning the ships.
2.   Advise the commander that we are under attack.

If the commander still does not turn the ship, what should you do?

1.   Try to take command and turn the ships.
2.   Type that the task group is about to be bombed.

If the Carrier is sunk, what should you do?

1.   Say oh well and find something else to get into.
2.   Fuss at the commander for letting that happen.
3.   Go to the Roster and find the commander and go to where he is at.

I’ve done the later several times to find the commander on the other side of the map in a furball over the base.

I have great respect for the people who are commanding and never criticize the actions they take.

I lose respect if a commander puts a task group up next to an enemy base without planning for battle like taking the ordinance out and then going to some other part of the map to play.  Effecting a battle and possibly the outcome of the war.

Again I’m not pounding on the pilots that have done this, but I think it is an issue that needs to be addressed.

If you put your name down as the commander of a task group it should be handled just like a mission.  If you leave the the bridge or the sector of the task group your command should be relinquished.

I’m sure there are people that can do two things at once, but your not being fair to your fellow pilots if while your in command, you are not in the battle with them.

I think if you are in command of a fleet that is the only base you sould be able to take off from. Or even make it so you cant go to another base. You are only able to man guns fly form that CV or sit in its tower. That would keep people from sailing a TG into a PT spawn and flying somewhere else.

couple years ago I was in a situation where someone of higher rank was moving a CV away from a friendly base that was about to come under attack.

Not a port mind you. An Air base.
After pleading with teh Cv commander to turn the Cv around for 5 min to no avail and upon seeing that if we didnt have the Cv back there soon we were going ot loose the base.

I did the logical thing. I found the highest ranking Knight in the arena and asked him to take over the Cv and turn it around.
He gladly did and not only did we not loose the base (saved literally in the nick of time) but sent us on a spree where we ended up using it to take 4 more bases.
All in the opposite direction from where the CV was originally headed.

Having problems with a higher ranking CV commander doing mindless things?

Find the highest ranking member on your side to help correct the situation.

good idea there....commander must somehow be attached to the fleet while in command....maybe bridge only?

That a good idea about getting a higher ranking officer to take control.

Thanks

That is some good 1's from your post "Command and Control"

Quote
I put this on our squad site and got some pretty good feedback and input. Make the cv command just like a gv, you use your rank to take command but in order to stay in command you must be on the cv. Just like in a tank you would have the tower and any gun postion you wanted to use. I also thought about making it cost perks to take command but there were some good reasons not to do that, however 1 good reason to do it would be for all the guys that deliberately take them and get them sunk. I sure wouldn't want to deliberately lose say 15/20 perks. Also whoever takes command of the cv controls the flight deck! In other words nothing can launch till you open the flight deck! Anyone would be able to jump on and gun while it was closed, but no flights/lvts/pts ect could up.

Probably the best thing about being in a squad of low ranked people, when someone has the CV with a lower rank than me, I ask one of my squadies to take it over. :D

Greetings,

Love the idea that you can't leave the sector or must lift from the CV.  Perhaps the rank structure could be set up so that the 'TF cdr' gains a rank penalty if the CV / Cruiser is sunk while under his 'command'.

MWL, THAT is a brilliant idea.  You should post that in the wishlist thread.

Not a lot of people do this, but I tend to set the CV up, so that we can take a few bases wile its moving in the same spot. I usually take command, move it, and give up command, just so I can help out.
