What a wonderful analyst Karl Rove is
« on: March 24, 2008, 08:29:21 PM »
I didn't want to muddy up the Obama threads, but any following the story have certainly tuned into Fox news a few times. I hope you got to catch Karl Rove on a few of the shows. After being pigeon holed as some type of diabolical monster in the mainstream press, its a pleasure to see how intelligent and entertaining he is. I remember when the late Bill Walsh tried to be a color commentator for football games. Although he was an obvious football genius, I didn't find him entertaining as a football analyst or color commentator. Karl Rove rivals James Carville in being an entertaining political commentator.

I would think that the late Bill Walsh wouldn't add much to any conversation.

I thought he (Bill Walsh) would be good. Who knows, in a few years he may have been, But I think he only did it for one year. I remember when Madden started. He was BAD. But within a few years he was one of my favorite football commentators. I don't think he's as good now, but for awhile in the late 80's- mid 90's he was top notch.

Are those things mutually exclusive?

I agree.  The few times I heard Rove chatting about the political scene I was impressed at his insight and the way he expresses himself.  Very interesting and entertaining, and made me understand why a presidential candidate would value his opinions.  He has been successful, if controversial.

Its kinda funny how all you have to do is just mention his name in a liberal crowd like the Air America crowd and WHOA... look out, there's howling, screeching, jumping up and down and foaming at the mouth at SATAN'S DEMON FROM HELL - if not SATAN himself!  Death wouldn't be good enough for Karl Rove. A thousand deaths and burning at the stake wouldn't be good enough!  Oh the gnashing of teeth, and wailing and raising of burning torches!  Its funny as hell.

I think Rove is the first Bush person to be hired by ANY media outfit--Either Time or Newsweek wanted to hire him, and many on the staff threatened to quit--contrast that with the 7 or 8 Ex-Clinton people who are on news shows every day

Probably not, but the point was the one dimensional portrayal of Karl Rove in the liberal press. When you get to see the engaging person he is and you ask, "are these reporters that dumb or blind not to see the engaging aspects of this man, or they are so corrupt and manipulative as not to note the engaging aspects of this person?"

On a local level I can compare it to this. I wholeheartedly believe Mayor Nagin has bad judgement, is a little nuts, and is incompetent. But he is an engaging person. In a one on one conversation, you would probably come out liking him. Only a dishonest reporter would omit that fact.

Rove = Wonderful and Charming.  Media = Evil and Vindictive.  Check.

Well the second one is close, at least.

You have got to be kidding.  No matter how charming or how charismatic anyone on any side is, republican or democrat, .... involvement in the outing of a CIA agent under cover in any case is tantamount to treason.  The world really is in danger when people start holding this man in anything less than contempt, no matter how intelligent he seems.  Pigeon-holed?  He has been documented to have worked with Libby on the outing of Plame.  You have an extreme case of "American Forgetfullness".

Eh ... all he really did was discover email/the internet was so fast that mud could not only outpace reality but that people really do believe everything they're predisposed to believe when it hits their email box. Even the phone tactics he picked up from predecessors is old hat now.  Gerrymandered states may still play a pretty big role, though. ;)
