Ya know it you really want to know who's flying in that plane all ya gotta do is either shoot them down or (in my case) get shot down by them.

Ok, let's look at it from this angle:

Let's say just like nose art, each aircraft is set up to display the number in a specific position (IE, in F4Us it's on the front landing gear door and on each side of the fuselage forward of the roundel). The problem is, skins in the game already HAVE aircraft ID numbers as part of the skin. HTC would have to toss out the skins and institute generic, numberless skins otherwise your individual plane number will get lost against the number already part of the skin. Additionally, each skin would need to be very specifically designed to ensure the number wouldn't interfere with any other artwork (odd-sized/placed national insignia, etc).

I like the IDEA, as it would offer both immersion, and would look really sweet in screens--especially integrated with the ability for squads to create their own unique skins rather than just a nose art file--but I don't see this working with the way skins are currently handled.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

You are right about the way the numbers could work Saxman. And I though about that and came up with the idea of having them on part of the wing and tail as not to interfere with the planes skin.

I cam up with this idea on an FSO when my whole squad was using the same skin on the same plane. I thought a personal number some where on the wing and tail would help us stand out a little more.

Also, when flying along, you see a plane with a number on the side, you recognize the number as some one you shot down earlier.

The secret is to take a name that has some historical reference, then get one of the skinners to do a skin of it (Thanks Fester).

You can then have your AH name right on your plane all the time :)

I could, but every one in my family who has served was infantry or navy, but no pilot's.

And oddly enough, I have a fear of heights.

"Where am I?"
"In the Village."
"What do you want?"
"Information."
"Whose side are you on?"
"That would be telling…. We want information. Information! INFORMATION!"
"You won't get it."
"By hook or by crook, we will."
"Who are you?"
"The new Number Two."
"Who is Number One?"
"You are Number Six."

I don't know what the point is with numbering the plane, why would you need it and how are you going to read it as it go's by you at 600mph?
