You've GOT to be kidding. Morgan Freeman is the only actor that comes to mind in comparison to the actors of the 50's and 60's.

I would like to see how badly Tom Cruise, George Clooney, or Brad Pitt would screw up a remake of Ben Hur. Oh thats right, thier last couple of movies have been bombs.

To add to this, the actors of that era HAD to get their lines right the first time, not many producers were patient enough to do more than 2 takes on ANY scene. You had to have a thick skin when it came to producers on the set. Today's mamby pamby spoiled offspring-of-the-60's actors/actresses would not have been able to hack a movie set/producers back in the 50/60's.

I always thought that John Waynes last movie "The Shootist " was a a great finish to his movie career

This is probably how we should all remember Mr Heston  from one of his best movies.

If you want to gain a better idea of how diverse Heston's acting ability was....watch him in "A Man for All Seasons" which was a remake of an earlier movie starring Paul Scofield.  Scofield really nailed the part of Sir Thomas More, but Heston did a fine job as well.

Heston also played the part of Mark Antony in a 1949 production of "Julius Caesar."  I thought it was the finest performance for that role I have ever seen.

Another film that Heston considered one of his favorites was "War Lord."  This is one of the better films in the genre of medieval history, where Heston plays a Norman war lord sent by the Duke of Ghent to control a coastal region troubled by Viking raiders.  Although I thought Heston's performance was overshadowed by that of Guy Stockwell, it is nevertheless another good example of his ability to handle a complex character.

Karthoum with Olivier.  Another keeper.

Tango, thanks for the title "A Touch of Evil" which aptly names the show.  I count myself very lucky to have been old enough to view his films from the 50's.  Yes I was still a kid, but old enough to realize what I was seeing was a story worth telling.  Stories that highlight virtues.  Vice is shown, and shown well.  But not as some "oh, I guess this is what we've got to settle for," but to show how wrong "wrong" is.

Simple and true lessons.

P.S.  Have to go back and review El Cid.  Been to long for me to recall.

Thanks, Tango!

mt..  my views on civil rights have been up and down and can be considered from left to KKK to right.  I first believed as Heston, that all men were created equal.   I then became disgusted with the total abuse and whining and rioting the whole black power crap.

Now.. I am right wing again.   I believe in equal rights.. not extra rights or rights based on reaching some outcome of equality of performance.  I see exactly what Heston felt.   I will fight to the death to see that everyone is equal under the law.. I will do all I can to see that no one is given extra rights tho based on race.

First off, its really sad see all the editted comments this morning. I can only guess that SOME of those comments that were editted were attempting to insult a political icon who's flagship was the 2nd amendment. That's very sad, and perhaps you should think before posting, what this man has done to keep our 2nd amendment freedoms in place.

Secondly, it saddens me to see Chuck leave this earth spiritually. May he RIP.

Ditto <S> Mr. Heston, you'll be missed.
