You have to remember that Oscar awards have been greatly devalued since Heston won his.

Fer cripes sake, they gave Michael Moore an Oscar.

The Oscar gold had become brass plate.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Not to mention how cheap the walk of stars has become with the Spears types buying their way in.Heston was in a class all his own.All the special effects have done is dumb down the movie go'ers to substandard acting.

You can buy a star on the walk? Is that a joke, or can you really buy one?

Well, his peers thought otherwise. You don't win an Oscar with sub-top notch acting...

(Image removed from quote.)

He belonged to a generation of actors that over-acted. He was among the "worst" of them in that respect. As i said, I liked alot of his movies but thats it. Sorry for not beeing part of his fanbase.

Yah, some guys ya just love their on-screen persona--Spencer Tracy WAS a great actor, and I always liked his movies (the original 3:10 to Yuma is my fav) No one would compare John Wayne with Sir Lawrence Olivia, but I never saw a movie a movie of his (or Heston's) which I didn't like. The modern day models--Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, the little short enviro-nut from Titanic....they are all selected FIRST and FOREMOST as models, then if they can perhaps act their way out of a paper bag, so much the better. Does anyone think Ernest Borgnine would be given  a leading role in a movie today? Richard Widmark? Humphry Bogart.....so many others of their ilk would never be heard of today, sad

Ernest Borgnine still has a film in post production BJ, so the answer is yes to that one....:)

The man was in some great films - but your kidding yourselves if you think actors of his generation aren't playing the same roles the same way as stars currently on the screen now do...
A good actor and pretty good at what he did...anything outside film well that is debatable...
