Awhile back I asked you for a suggestion on reading material.  You suggested Fire in the Sky by Eric Bergerud.

Talk about comprehensive lol he appears to have researched thoroughly.  Can't put it down.

Thanks for your suggestion.  It has made a nice addition to my collection and is very informative.

That's a great book indeed.

Before Fire in the Sky Bergerud wrote one about the ground war in the same theater. Touched by Fire reads every bit as well, and gave me my first taste of the substantial Australian contributions. Never realized that the Kokoda Trail(s) battle resonates there like Guadalcanal does for Americans.

Of course, Bergerud writes with the same talent and the same attention to first person narratives that make Fire in the Sky such a good read. You'll like the ground book every bit as much as his other one!

Incidentally, I know that at one point he played AH and was active in a squad. Don't remember which one, but I remember one of his squaddies talking about it.

Wow. That's one I can't wait for.

I've been toying with the idea of gradually getting the "History of Naval Operations in WW2" by Samuel Eliot Morison. It runs about 20 volumes, and I've read the first 6 or so before the interlibrary loan lost its contacts with the place that still stocked them. Was re-released in paperback, but I've poked around at Allibris and found a good number of the books available. Two barriers now are the cost, and my wife's general drive to have fewer books "cluttering" the house!

Keep an eye on half priced books if you have a store around you.  That series is always around there and fairly inexpensive if you are going a book at a time.
