No...  it's just politics.  The California wine industry gives to campaigns.

So... You're basically proposing to criminalize Alcohol, at least the behavior of it.  People who are addicted to it are GOING to get it somehow.  What you're suggesting is that they need to start stealing in order to fund their habit.

And when that's not enough, they'll make it themselves.  They'll do this to maximize Alcohol content through all available means and throw safety to the wind.

Congratulations.  Your socialistic methods have created real criminals, victimless criminals and accomplished little more than that, other than making it more expensive for everyone else.

With that logic we should legalise pot, methamphetamine and heroin

Oddly enough Tronski, we should. Then the criminals will need to find some other disadvantaged minority to screw for their unreasonable profits, our prisons will have a lot more room in them and the cool bad boy risk factor will be greatly reduced for the younger generations.
Addicts will have easier access to aid programs and the Government will be able to more accurately monitor and treat areas of abuse.

Along with gambling and prostitution.

Except for DUI, we should.  What crackheads do in their house is none of my business.

As well as legalizing it, it should stop being subsidized.  You won't receive my money because you spend so much time in rehab and the hospital.

raising taxes or making booz or anything else illegal mean only one thing, the moonshiners, bootleggers, smugglers get rich. JFK's daddy became rich smugging booz from Canada to the US during prohibition.

Taxation without representation other than someones whim and greed. Seems like noone minds if the minutemen turn over in their graves anymore.

Do you have any idea at all what that phrase means?? Were you awake in history class dealing with the 1770's?

FWIW, and I realize it's likely a wasted effort, the bill is being proposed by a legislator in the state of kaliphornia. That means he was ELECTED to that position by the PEOPLE of that district. This kind of fullfills the representation part since he represents the electorate that put him there don't you think? The Minutemen of the 1770's would have no complaint regarding the representation aspect of this situation.

You do realize that crackheads and any other addicts do not just stay in their houses. This addiction does have an impact on every other part of their life and their being "high" will not stop once they cross the threshold of their house. Dealing with the abuse of the substance, just like alcohol, will always be a function of society as long as the addicts remain in that society. Given the desire for universal medical coverage per the demos,  they will have even more access to your tax dollars as will they wellfare dollars to maintain them in food, housing, etc. etc. since they can't be allowed to fade away. They are voters for crying out loud.

Just wait. They did/are doing it with cigarettes. Red meat is on the chopping block next. Then will be alcohol. Before we know it we'll be eating soylent green.

You do know what the significance of the tape and printed labels on both tobacco and alcohol products is don't you? Those are tax stamps indicating that the feds are getting their cut of the procedes of the sale of those items.

Blaming "them" for the situation won't get you anywhere as "they" are in the position that "they" are by your indulgence at the ballot box. If "they" are doing something you don't like, tell "them" about it and if "they" don't change vote "them" out.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Maverick, most of what you've said is true. However, I'd like to point out that when you said this:

It reminded me that when legislator's wish to get bills' passed that seem unpalatable to the general public, they tack it on to something else that people really want, thereby forceing them to take the good with the bad. The tax would be hidden behind something like, oh, a bill lifting public ordinances behind drinking in a public park, for instance. It's just a dirty little legislative trick.
