You just need to re'evaluate your tactics. Dont actually up from the base that's getting attacked. Up from one a sector or 2 away, get some alt, then go and cherry pick the pickers, or dog fight the cherry pickers, and then cherry pick the enemies lower then you. 

Whilst you are attempting to make a sweeping generalisation (something which never/rarely works IMO) about whining, I would have to agree with the above bit of your post.  Yes, there are countless other circumstances (such as what Guppy posted) to which these things won't apply.

However, since it's (usually) a safe assumption that your opponent's going to use (almost) any means necessary to shoot you down; if you're intent on winning, or at least having a 'fair' fight, then IMO it's your responsibility to make sure that you begin with an advantage/on equal terms - so if he has an altitude advantage, you should climb first to neutralise his advantage etc.

Anyway, angelsandair made a good point that if you got beaten in an 'unfair' fight, it's probably as much your fault as your opponent's, as you could always not have upped from a capped base etc.  Therefore, you really have no reason to complain about HOs etc.

Let me see if I paraphrase this idea correctly. If you have had a life before now you are unable to have an opinion? Unwritten forum rules: If you have been playing longer than someone else, your entitled to be louder than they are and therefore must be right in your opinions; The higher your virtual score is the more abusive you are allowed to be; Finally, since you are basically annonymous, you are free to act contrary to accepted social norms.

I am not talking about you in particular, sir, I am just referring to the feel of the boards. The topic of ho'ing, vulching, etc., will be on here forever, the real problem is one of respect and how we express ourselves to one another. Like this thread, there is an abundunt lack of tact and well thought out argument.

You know, everyone always say that "Rook are always at high alt!" or "Bish always horde!", but if you play for all 3 sides for a while you'll notice that all countries do the same thing. Bish, Nits, and Rooks all have times where they fly at 10-15K and they have times where hey don't. Bish, nits, and Rooks have times where they have a horde going, and there are times when they are on the recieving end of one. So, please stop accusing one country of being "Alt Monkey's" or "Horde Masters" when all countries do it.

Halo.  Would you just walk into a cozy bar where everyone knows everyone else, decide that you disagree with their dart an pool house rules and ettiqute, and decide to demand they change it to the way you think they should be?  Or would you reserve judgement long enough to decide whether you want to find another establishment, or like the place enough to hang out, figure out the pecking order, and maybe suggest improvements as the regulars get to know you?

I've see really great posts by relatively new players, and I've seen post by people that have been around forever where you wonder where their head has been at all these years.  Time playing AH, and scores do not make one automatically right, or wrong. Fact is though, that the scope of ones perspective affects the quality of their opinion.

You might want to view the unwritten rule of thumb as: if a number of game vets jump in, in opposition of a topic...odds are they know what they're talking about.

lol yea. I used to only fight down low. And when people complain about the Hoicane 2cs, its probably cause of the fact that they were picking and got Ho'ed.


Oh and Latrobe, the thing about the Rooks always being higher then everyone else, thats just a little joke. I've picked plenty of rooks in my Jug-40. The bish horde though, is actually really true, I've seen 10 bishops on 1 plane while I got 2-3 easy kills on my six.

      All !.....Being 90% on CV's as a gunner, I have seen some nice 1 on 1 fights just outside gunners range. !   Sorry to say that happens not as frequently as it shoud./  Defending CV's in most cases, seems to be forgotten, very seldom some one will inform U, that a set of bombers r on the way, for they r chasing a spit back to the base that we r trying to capture >..

      This is not a whine !!!... just an observation...  It is very sad to watch good fights disappear from gunners position  ... when only a Jug or p38 dives on CV in kamikazee way......and then, of corse, there goes nice fights  //

      If a CV is near a base,,, Ur own or enemy, fighters should stay around, maybe just outside gunneries range, for lately the CV's seem to easy to convert into Submarines 

      Just an Old guys observation... that finds fun being in AH, except to old to fly, and look for a good fight !

Yes get alt on me by all means.

I actually prefer when my opponent starts with more alt then me.

Only a precious few know what to do with it anyway.

The rest I just use all that Alt an E against them.

Well, I sorta let them  have the alt if they are level with me. I dive down for a low merge and most dont know how to counter it. I just pull up behind them after they try and fail to get a deflection shot on me (for some reason, they always fail) and I bring my plane up into an Immelan and kill them.
