Some of you guys don't seem to understand that wide screens do already work.

However, if you want to gain something extra with your wide screen, turn (pivot) it vertical!!! That way you have the same 90 deg viewing angle horizontally, but gain A LOT in the vertical direction ;)

using a 37" - turning it sideways is impractical.  however those who are using widescreen and saying it works fine, your image on the bottom and top are clipped.  to show an example go to the hangar on a LARGE cv group and try to select some guns, you will notice that part of that cv group is cut off.  I did come up with a hack to play FarCry, it seems that about 112 degrees pov is the sweet spot.

If you notice, the bottom portion is cut off.  Even if you zoom all the way out, pretty much all bottom portion of the instrument panels will be cut off.  Some more so than other planes.

I didnt notice.  Took a bit of a hiatus and when I came back after a couple years I just installed on a widescreen so I couldnt remember any comparison.  I just map a keypad number to a view for the instrument panel for stuff I cant see typically.  Doesnt bother me at all.

That's fine for you but to me, it's a hinderance to have to look down into my instrument panel while in the middle of a fight when previously I only had to take a slight glance at the dials as they weren't cut off.  It's not so bad in the P-38 but planes like the A-20, it's far worse.

Well,

I'm by no means a fan of Widescreen format (16x9 or 16x10) monitors, but it seems to me that something is going to have to happen to support them properly pretty soon, as most monitor manufacturing companies are not making anything else.

I mean, have you tried to buy a high-quality, large (19" or greater) standard format (4x3) monitor lately? The supply is drying up fast.

Most of what is left on the market has slow refresh, low-resolution (large pixel pitch), way too many stuck pixels, or is priced too high.

Somethings got to give.

It's a WW2 reproduction of the Type A-8 flying helmet used by the Army Air Corps that I ordered and was planning on hooking up earphones and a mic to.  I know, I'm a geek and a nerd.

I programmed the fwd on my view hat to move me back in the cockpit so I can see the gauges, in some planes I have to go down a little. It's a PITA but it's a bit of a shortcut for me. I'd like to see true widescreen support added too :aok

Consider this: IF the FOW would be bigger all the 3D objects would severely deform i.e. stretch when they would approach the edge of your monitor. I think the effects of too large FOW can be seen already with 90 deg but its is somewhat unnoticeable. With the actual FOW the deformation would be zero but the view would be very limited, as in zoom mode.

If you have a game that supports both 4:3 and 16:9 pick a scene with ample horizontal and vertical details and switch resolutions with automatic monitor scaling disabled and you'll notice that there is always cropping involved in vertical aspect.

So, AH already has "widescreen support".
