My "safe" neighborhood

I live in a very safe neighborhood

Thats what I always thought about my area. A town of 10,000 people (but very low density) with alot of farms, a very white, rural area.
Then about 5 years ago we had a big incident. Some guy high on who knows what steals the fire cheids car from the scene of a fire. The cops later find the guy and truck at house. The search the place and find all kinds of guns (IIRC they did not have permits for any of them), hookers, and a massive of amount of cocaine. while searching the yard they found some recent graves in the back with 5 or 6 bodies between them.

It reallys make me think about if there truly safe neighborhoods anymore.

As crazy as it sounds, i've lived in Chicago my whole life (46yrs) never had to fire a shot.  Although i do have this hanging on my door.

I send my son out to get into the car this morning (intending to be a few steps behind him), and hear gun shots from right outside our home. He runs back in & locks the door (smart kid).

But TXmom, don't you know that those gunshots are the sound of "freedom"! Your second amendment at work - the right to bear arms - Yay!

Actually, that's not the 2nd amendment at work. The pansy thugs will have guns whether or not any amendment is present allowing it.  It's the rest of us that benefit from any of the amendments.

I live in a small city in Stanly County, I don't think I've ever worried about gunshots here...and when I do hear them, they are around hunting session.

If you should decide to stay there, then I would definitely recommend getting a Class III fully automatic weapon to protect your home with.   This would give you a big edge in protecting your family from any armed thugs and hoodlums.

Texas is one of the states that still allows for ownership of  Class III weapons.   A dealer in Central Texas has detailed instructions available online to help any Texas citizen who wants to get a license to get a Class III firearm.   Feel free to check it out here:

The only gotcha in doing this is that your local Chief of Police has to approve your license.   And they are not required by law to do so in Texas, even if your criminal record is clean.   But most Police Chiefs and Sheriffs in Texas are pro-gun ownership, so your odds are actually pretty decent that they would, as long as you have a clean record.

Mac-10 9mm submachine guns are pretty popular with Moms for self-defense.   It would definitely be one to check out, like this lady here:

Candlemas forgets that there are citys that have laws to keep guns out of the hands of law abiding americans and still criminals got them.... In Spades...

Airscrew forgets there are other societies around the world that have no guns at all, and a negligible homicide rate. Assuming he ever knew that in the first place to have been able to forget it in the second place.

Further down my street, there's another cop.  He was shot outside of his home a few months back. When I googled it this morning, that news article that details that particular shooting has disappeared ~ and in it's place is a news article which appears to have replaced it, omitting entirely that he's a cop... and even changes the line of events.

This was actually the most disturbing part, to me (Of course, keep your head down if YOU or your loved ones actually get shot at). I can't really think of a good reason for them to pull the story, offhand-really strange.

Frode, I found that very strange as well.  I wonder why they didn't just asked to have it removed from the online archives instead?

I suppose it's entirely possible that they did just that: asked to have it removed.  That would mean that in the same month another shooting on my street occurred that I never heard about... and that would be the one which I read about.

I'm sorry, it just doesn't seem likely. I'm pretty attentive... and sometimes friendly with the neighborhood snoop.
