Anyone Hordeing?
« on: April 26, 2008, 09:49:13 AM »
So are any of you hordeing food? After watching the news on these stories i was wondering if this isn't just pumped up hype. I do know a lot of the asian and mexican restaurants in my area buy there big bags of rice at SAM's club. Was talking to one of the owners of the asian place here in town and he said he easily goes through 5 bags a week. I'm just kind of suspicious of the whole story.

I wouldn't worry. I've noticed that alotta chinese places have gone to a 'buffet' format, or one kinda like it, where all the food on the menu is cooked, and kept on a steam-table under glass. That way, they just serve, and cook more when they need it. They work on building up a reputation for fast service, and it's also hard for a customer to say no when they are looking at huge piles' of Brocolli Beef, orange chicken, Chow Mein, Fried rice, Wonton soup, egg rolls...you get the picture.

If you believe in the Bible,or pay any attenion to the so called seers,Hopi and Mayan indians, etc.Food will become scarce, and many other natural disasters will befall the world. When is it  going to happen, well the Mayans have it around 2014.Is the earth starting to show signs of it coming soon.Holes in atmospere,Changes in weather, earthquakes, etc.Wars going on all over world, espically in middle east.I would say we're moving in the right direction. For those that don't believe in all the signs, and say don't worry about it.Thats their perrogative as well.

No food yet, just ammo.   Here is what I have in one of my boxes:

Only 1,340 rounds in this box.

Ammo prices have been climbing even higher than most foods.   So it is best for you to stock up now.

White rice is a food only for the uneducated.  White rice is actually brown rice with the majority of micronutrients and fiber stripped off.  That garbage metabolizes to sugar faster than white bread.

Glok,
You bring a interesting point to my attention. What good is food with out the means of protecting it? If food does become scarce you better believe some people are going to fight for it. A ample supply of protection and food is going to be the issue. For this reason I am looking at setting an "escape plan" up some day. If it ever its the fan it would be nice to have some protection and a good food supply. My guess is that seeds are going to be a good investment too. Any "end of days" scenario is likely to last longer than any stockpile bought by average mortal will last. I think a few months of food, protection, and a means to grow your own food is the going to be the ideal way to survive the big one.....which ever form of disaster the end might bring.

OMG you Nancy's. Stop stressing about it. Strip, taking advice from Glok, is like a wet t-shirt contest being judged by a blind man. It just doesn't make sense. Ammo prices are not that high. I can still pick up 1,500 rounds of 9mm for about 120.00$. Even self defense ammo is not that high. You just have to know where to shop.

I was at Costco today. I didn't see any mad panic over food. The news just keeps pounding away at the story because they have nothing else negtive to run.

Then specifically where can you find such a deal as you mention here?   Even low quality Russian Wolf brand 9mm ammo costs more than that.   Or are you talking about buying reloaded ammo from some little known minor source, instead of a known brand of ammo??   Many people are not comfortable buying that sort of ammo.

And of all the various calibers, 9mm is one that has been affected less, because it is so common and mass produced around the world so much.   Larger calibers like .40 S&W and .45 Auto have increased far more.   They also use more copper and lead, both of which have dramatically risen in price in recent years on the commodities market.

And centerfire rifle ammo has gone up a great deal in recent years.   In the past few years since the Iraq war started, I've seen stores actually run out of .223 ammo at times, or ration it.   7.62 NATO ammo is no longer as commonly available as it used to be, and definitely has increased quite a bit from where it used to be.

Copper is now so very expensive that thieves are even cutting into live power lines to steal it.  Phone lines have been cut.   Even where I live, the biggest city in our county had thieves strike the city lights over the extensive bike path system that the city has, riping out the copper wiring.   Much of it is being blamed on Meth addicts, desperate to raise cash.

I'm surprised that you are not aware of all of this, as it has been big news the past couple of years.   Here is a recent story on ABC News specifically about copper:
