I'd think it's not so much what the model does with the weight itself, but what it would do to the location of the CG.  Based on routienly rtb'ing wing damaged P-38s, I very much prefer to burn the fuel so that the good wing has 400-600 more pounds of fuel weight to have a good "balanced" feel on approach.  I doubt you'd lose that equivalent weight of material off of a typical fighters wing and still stay aloft.  Any weight to offset the asemetrical lift helps, but I would venture a guess that in the case of a wingtip, the change wouldn't be significant.

I have to agree on that. Lose a tail, it doesn't matter, you're done. Lose a wingtip and you can make it home. It's much harder than it ought, but possible.

Out of the fight, sure, but a lot of us live for the parts of this game where we barely limp home and make it (kills or not).
