The cubbies!
« on: June 02, 2008, 12:28:26 AM »
OMG.  The agony never ends. This year our cubbies have raised cub fan hopes ever higher. Hard will be the fall as our beloved losers crash... normal timing would be right after the all star break.  O the humanity!

With a nickname like "Cubbies" What do you expect?

LOL yes I know its the "Cubs"

But lets face it.
Discribing a group of grown men as "Cubbies"  doesnt exactly excude a group of killers. Or a bunch of guys one would expect to win anything
Particularly comming out of Chicago
Sounds like a ballet act complete with pink tutus

Now. Change that nickname to somethihg like "The Hit Men"
THEN you could expect something.

Hmmm I kinda like that name
"The Chicago Hit Men"

But the "Cubbies"?

Now I ask you.
If you were to play for a team.
Whom would you rather play for?

"The Chicago Hit Men"

Or

"The Cubbies" ?

I am yet another Waukegan, IL dyed-in-the-wool Cubs fan.

Been to the old Comiskey....loved it...especially in the old Bill Veek days and fireworks.

Been to Brewers games....loved it...caught a Thurmon Munson foul ball.  Hot dogs had my favorite Boetjes Brown Mustard...wish I had been old enough to have an ice cold Miller back then.

But an afternoon game at Wrigley...even in the summer could have a slight chilly breeze off lake Michigan.  To see your childhood heroes (ok...they went to the playoffs in '68) in real life (and NOT in black & white)...was priceless for a kid.

And when guys like Pirates stars Roberto Clemente & Willie Stargell, or Tom Sever of the Mets, or Tommy Agee of the Giants, Pete Rose & Johnny Bench of the Reds come to town....awesome.  They don't make pre-steroid era guys like that anymore.

Count me wishing I could be in the 3rd base side in a box seat heating a $8 hot dog and $5 dollar beer with a big red "C" on my hat.

I grew up in Hammond IN, sandwiched between Gary, East Chicago, and the crappy south side of Chicago.  The cubs give me a headache.

It's the Chicago Bears all the way, only team worth watching.

Why do think Harry Carray called us:

"The Die Hard Cubs Fans"

I also LOVE The Bears.  It was a heck of a long time before the Superbowl XX win, and almost did it again a couple of years ago.

It could be worse...I COULD be a Sacremento fan.

"The Chicago Hit Men" was a nick name given to the White Sox by the news papers or something a few years back.

I'll take the name of a wild animal at any age over a pair of stinky socks no mater what their color.  (Socks???  why would you name your team after an article of clothing? Oh yeah, and the New York Knickerbockers, ????)

Just remember Cub fans. Even with Lou, and Fukudome they are still the Chicago Cubs. They have a nice lead and may win the Division. But come October they will choke like they always do. And the more confidence you have going into the playoffs the more painful the collapse will be.  :rofl
