Why do You fly what You fly??

The P-47.  All variants.  I'd love to see a razorback someday.

Why do I fly it?  It's big and beautiful.  It is also a challenge to fly and do well in.  It fits my flying style, I like to BnZ a bit and do lots of E fighting.  I also like to be the underdog and find ways to win the day.  I have also read Robert Johnson's book "Thunderbolt", and I really liked it.  When you get right down to it, I fly the P47 in AH because it is challenging and it's attributes suite my style of play.

Seeker, I'd argue that the Spitfire was the plane that saved England, but as for the plane that did the most to win the war, I'd have to give that call to the P-47 as far as fighters go.  Escort, A2A, sweeps, and ground attack.  The Jug did it all, and it all well.  It may not be the sexiest plane in the eyes of most folks, but it certainly earned the name "Juggernaut".  I think the only plane you could argue that was more important to winning the war was the B-17, but as far as fighters go, I feel the Jug holds the title.

especally folks that fly Non-dweeb planes like the tiffie, yak, la5, p-38

A classic example of spending too much time in the forums, and not enough time in the MA. The vocal minority is just that.

Fighter: Spitfire MkIX
a) good allround fighter
b) more often than not u'll come across ppl that think they can outturn a spit... especially n1k drivers

Attack: Typhoon
a) nice ord, great guns to smack enemy cap after bombing the osties
b) good zoom, fun to spoil a P-51's rope 'n dope tactics

Bomber: Ju-88, Lancaster
a) very pleasing to destroy the forward ackfield, also known as CV with the Ju

FW190A8 : beautiful plane, excellent for jabo and pretty good as a fighter if you keep it light.I mainly fly it because i like LW planes and I love the roll rate.
other faves include JU88 (much overlooked) which can take out all the acks FH's and other stuff to boot
109g2: my favourite defence fighter: excellent acceleration and climb, good armement with gondalas and WEP cools off very quickly.Great plane

The Zeke...mostly because there is no Ki-43.
BTW, if a post was made on a Bulletin Board, and no came along to poke them in the eye, would it still be a post?

The JUG, both variants........
You may see me in other birds at times, 190A8, 109G10, P38L, etc, if the mission planner dictates a specific plane/loadout, but when I have a choice, I select the Jug and take to the skies.
She can't climb for squat without WEP, she ain't the fastest, she won't outturn very many planes, she don't outtdive many planes.....but I feel at home when I hop in one, fully knowing that I am automatically the underdog when I am spotted.
I have, this past tour, taken the Niki and Hawg-C on occasion.......like I told another pilot, this was more out of being ticked off than anything else, and looking at my stats, you can see that I am a prime example of someone who cannot exploit the Niki's skills.
I know what I can and cannot do in the Jug.  Slowly, surely, I have relearned her quirks and her strengths.
If HTC comes out with the P47M or N, you can be sure I will be in one every chance I get.  A faster climbing version would be more than welcome.
I also fly(flew) the F6F for a while...have a 4:1 k/d ratio in it, not eye popping by anyone's standards, I know.  But I rarely fly it these days......just don't "feel" right, like something is missing in it.

P-38L

Because its the most beautiful fighter ever built (The Me262 is a close second)
Because its good at everything but the best at nothing
Because it requires a VERY good pilot
Because its has plenty of firepower and ammo
Nose guns are l33t
Two engines is always better than one
Because it looks like a beautiful girl
Because it was the twin tailed devil.

Its a matter of love, really. Its the plane Ive loved since I was a small tardling. There is nothing more beautiful than a formation of P-38, specially when you look at it from above or below.

I dont know why but I find the shape of the plane hypnotizing, one of the most beautiful objects ever built by manking -- form meets function and beauty.

P47 because you need big brass ones to use it low and slow   It can be a tough ride to master in the MA environment and so it puts hair on the chest and makes your voice deeper.

The Yak because it's a damn fine ride but you almost have to be a samurai with it due to the small ammo load.  Close and in their face is the best

Interesting...

I havent seen one pilot brag about his 51!  Well lemme step up to the plate.

Love the speed.  I love the history behind the 51.  First long range escort, Tuskeegee Airmen, fast.  It was a plane American pilots in Europe really took pride in.

Its a plane that makes me proud to be an American!

The Yak! Because people still underestimate it. It can turn-fight the BnZ'ers and run them down when they try to get away (what other plane can do that!), it can BnZ the turn fighters, or in some cases, turn fight the turn fighters. 99% of the time it can extend away if it's in trouble.

It half-loops the best of ANY plane in the planeset. It turns great. It accelerates great. It's incredibly fast.

...and it's about as lethal as a BB gun at long range.

Still, it makes you a good shot and a better pilot because of it!

Fair enough! Counterquestion: If someone makes a post on the BBS that doesn't contain a whine about somebody else's plane choice or gameplay, would it still be a post?

Seeker, don't hurt my feelings, Im sensitive...plus Im right.

These posts on how you need to take the weakest armed, earliest war plane variant to be such a know it all so you can call everyone else a dweeb are getting a bit old.

I'd be a dick to call everyone that flys a particular plane type a dweeb and try to discount their success or enjoyment of the game because of that plane choice.

Singling out a freebie account holder that picks the general forum to start yet another anti-chog nik whine for a little sarcasm seemed appropriate.

The Macchi C.205V "Veltro". Becouse it is italian, it is a beauty, it is an early 1943 kite and becouse I enjoy killing late war a/c with it.
