Never did Janes but I did European Air War online on the Zone, 6 max in an arena on dialup

My first was Their Finest Hour on the Amiga (with half meg ram upgrade!), FPS of 5 was a luxury

(Image removed from quote.)

Their Finest Hour was my first ever PC flight sim.

I remember flying one mission over and over until my pilot had a high rating, then renaming the file over about ten times.I then used them as my wingmen. The Germans only made the coast once after that.

On the PC there wasn't much in the way of wingmen that I recall. I did have it down to the point where I could make a kill consistently using only 8 rounds. Setting up a scenario where you got successive waves of 8 enemy fighters was easy and so were they.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

I did that in X-wing. I even backed up my pilot file so if I died or was captured I could restore without starting at the lowest rating. :D

The latter X-wing games were sort of disappointing in that regard. There was a real loss of atmosphere.

 :salute Moe.

Best WWII air-combat sim ever. Aces Over Europe just wasn't as good.

I did.

But as this kind of hobby was almost non-existant in Germany, I almost always had to play solo :(

But even today I get "Achtung Spitfire!" and "Over the Reich" out of the shelf and play around a little bit. Quite amazing games, especially when compared to the rather flawed Air Force series ;)

I've got a copy of that Luftwaffe game.  In ways that was a great game.  Hard to play solo though.
