Recently watched that movie hub, most depressing thing I ever saw in my life.
Plus he made many many mistakes, a couple of which were cumulative.
A Crossing a frozen river without a way back after the Thaw.
B Not enough staples, rice, beans, flour, bacon, etc.
C totally inept attempt to cure meat.
Let me put it this way, your life depends on your ability to keep meat from spoiling.
Wouldn't you have made sure your method worked, or tested it first?
Or brought salt so you could keep it from rotting while you smoked it?
D terrible timing, He walked into the bush in what looked like winter (possible late fall, or late winter)
How do you walk into anywhere and build a shelter, put away a winters supply of food that way?
Its simply not possible. You time it to walk, float your way into the bush in springtime.
You have all summer and fall to build shelter, and stock away your winters food supply. And, if all fails and
you decide you can't make it, you can walk out before your snowed in too deep to get out.
If the kid handn't burned his money, given away his college fund. He could have gotten a float plane to drop him into a good location. He could have built a much better shelter than a metal bus. (Talk about freeze your tail off in January!)
And he could have the pilot drop supplys a couple of times a year. In short if the kid had thought he could still be alive in alaska.
Instead hes famous, dead, but famous.
