The Place NOT To Be This Weekend
« on: May 24, 2008, 03:48:28 AM »
The Lake

I went out to the lake tonight fishing with some friends and it looks like the Sheriff's Department has laid siege to the park. 5 cars, 2 ATV's and a Mobile Command Post. This is at 2am and 90% of the place was asleep. I earlier earlier they made a sweep of the park and wrote over 200 tickets for glass containers.
Tomorrow the water patrol will be out doing "safety inspections".

I'm glad I have to work this weekend. I can't afford to support the county fund drive.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

I don't think I want to be anywhere near a lake, beach, or river anytime this weekend.

So, the place people go to relax on their time off is full of uniformed police officers making sure that everyone behaves?

That sucks.

I suggest you go to the gun range or a trash dump and fire off some rounds.  Then you can convince yourself how much freedom you guys have.

I'm off to the beach with the family in a couple of hours...no police expected to be there at all.

 :lol ;)

Actually, going to the gun range right now doesn't sound to bad.  Thanks for the idea!

It's called "generating revenue". Same reason they set up speed traps, sit on bridges with binoculars and look in you car for seatbelt violations with 6 cars waiting to pull you over. While all this manpower is out there supposedly protecting your "safety" there is absolutely no serious crime going on so rest easy. ;)

Possibly just a bad choice of lakes?
Things seem to going pretty well here at Tawakoni. People having fun and enjoying their time off.
There will be a couple more TP&W boats patrolling as there always are on holidays.
That`s a good thing for safety issues with the increased water traffic.

Obviously Bush, Perry or some other Republic elected official is to blame.  You need to post this immediately on MoveOn.org and get something working to fix this evil conspiracy!

And yet the second one of those drunks runs over your boat cuz he was sippin a Bud and rubbing his babysitter's leg, and not steering his craft, you'll be screaming as to why they weren't there.
Criticism of law enforcement is sometimes merited.... yet I probably feel there may have been some problems at your little lake in the past....otherwise they wouldn't be paying them double and triple time to be there.

That's a real nice thing to say Moray. Thanks. =)

As part of my kid's home schooling art class I had him create a detailed landscape design for our front & back yards.  He did far better than I thought he would ~ addressing an erosion/drainage problem in one spot, awnings for the eastward facing windows, different plants/flowers/bushes in varying heights & colors & textures.  I'm actually impressed with what he designed.  So we've been spending time (including this weekend) putting his plan into action.

His design included a special spot for the garden placquard (which we already have) in memory of the soldiers who left with TxDad on several trips to Iraq, but didn't return. <S>  to those men.

Today would be a great day -- beautiful outside -- but there are some family plans this afternoon. I'll have to see if the range is open tomorrow and if anyone wants to go.

It's easy to convince myself of this freedom since, well, I'm currently free to do just that unlike you. In fact, it's an appropriate way to get in touch with this holiday. To both contemplate the history and the sacrifice and have some fun. Just what to shoot... Perhaps the Garand, the Carbine, and maybe the K98k for the vanquished. The 1911 of course. My 1917 Enfield for WWI? Need to zero the Rrussian PU sniper I bought over the winter, and the Aimpoint red dot on my "Type R" 1943 M-1 carbine (all mods reversible). Added a Choate pistol grip stock and a bolt on rail system for the upper hand guard. Didn't need it, of course, but why the heck not.

All depends upon how much cleaning I want to do.

It's nice to be free.

Overkill for the current situation... but I ask again, what happened for the Popo to staff that area that heavily with guys on triple time for a holiday?  Last year must have had some serious incidents, for law enforcement to be in such force.

They didn't just go there to write tickets, with all due respect. Something has to give them reason to be there.  If you think it's money, then you don't know too many officers.
