<S> to all vetrans, as said before in a famous quote "Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for a friend"  :salute
Quote
Goto Google and type in "French military victories", then hit "I'm feeling lucky".
Here lie these men on this sun scoured atoll,
The wind for their watcher, the wave for their shroud,
Where palm and pandanus shall whisper forever,
A requiem fitting for heroes

In remembrance of my grandfather SSGT. Stanley Lincoln who marched with the 3rd Army as a BAR gunner and came to the rescue of the brave soldiers trapped by the Germans at Bastogne.   He related to me how they moved so fast that he had to march on with an empty gun.   Nobody was stopping to wait for the ammunition to catch up.   At one point, he captured a dozen german soldiers with an empty BAR.   When he saw the germans crouched down behind a stone wall, he leveled the BAR and pulled the trigger.   The germans thought the CLICK they heard was the safety being thrown off the BAR..  and they dropped their weapons and surrendered.  My grandfather is gone now.   But i'm honored he passed on his experience to me.  Greatful also to print these few words on this day in memorial to his service and bravery.

My Memorial Day "project".  Below is the marker at Fort Snelling National Cemetary in Bloomington Minnesota.  It's for a 428th FS, 474th FG P38 pilot named Oliver Berg.  He joined the 474th in early November 44 and was thrown into the thick of the ground attack war during the Battle of the Bulge.  He lasted until January 29, 1945 when his burning 38 crashed in sight of his home airfield on return from another mission.  He died in the wreck.  He's from the small town of Cottonwood Minnesota and was 28 at the time of his death.  A while back I decided to find out what I could about him.  I was lucky enough to get to talk to his roommate with the 428th who told me a bit about him. Just this week another pilot who went through training with him also turned up.  I've also been lucky enough to get some help in his home town and have the numbers of a couple of people who knew him I hope to talk to this week.

I got the B&W photo from his room mate with the 428th FS.  Oliver Berg is the guy in the center, and also the one I'm using for my avatar these days.  We have to make sure we don't forget these people who gave up their tomorrows for our todays.  <S>

Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?
Apparently I'm in the 20th FG 'Loco Busters', or so the legend goes.
