Computer Shutting Down
« on: June 06, 2008, 09:32:20 PM »
I hope someone can help me out here a bit.

I am running an older computer. I have 1gb of RAM, a NVIDIA GeForce MX/MX 400 Video Card (64MB Memory), ESS 1969 PCI Sound Card and an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ CPU.

I can have this machine run constantly for weeks at a time with no problems. When I get on AH, I can maybe fly for 10 - 20 minutes before the computer just shuts down completely. It litereally just turns itself off. I have read the help and tips here and tried sutting down all unnecessary processes and that still doesn't help.

Does anyone have any ideas why this machine of mine just turns itself off when I get into AH?

Any help would be appreciated.

one possibility is that your PC can't run Aces High safely.  If that is the case then the may shut down to prevent damage.  For instance, if your PC heats up quickly while playing it may shut off due to overheating.

It could be your vid card heating up from the intense graphics; those cards generate some high heat.  When I first started playing, I had an older puter and same happened...I plugged a better card in with a better fan and problem was solved.  Not saying that's your issue, but it's a good place to start looking.  Good luck as I know it's frustrating.

That is a pretty low end system for this game. A way to test it for heat problems is take the side panel off your computer, and point a floor fan into it on high. Start the game and see if it runs longer. If it does its most likely a heat problem. Upgrading may be in your future.

over heating most likely .

those old gf mx cards usually start video tearing when they get to hot . Cpu overheat is usually the shutdown ,or worn out circuits .

clean out all your fans, heatsinks, air intakes , ram ,ect .

start your pc and go to the bios (del key) now check your hardware/system monitor in there . note the cpu and case temp . let it warm up , if your above 50c cpu temp then your gonna have problems running games . you may need to clean and reapply artic silver to the cpu heatsink .
