1995 I was in the midst of buying a boat, thinking I was in the best relationship of my life, a promotion at work, and bought a new car.

1995 Buick Skylark. Took ownership November 1995. Last December I took it to the junk yard. 192,000 miles blown head gasket, cost over $2000 to replace. I used that car to it's fullest. I drove to Atlanta, GA 4 times from Milwaukee, 20 times to Upper Michigan, and all over.

I miss that car. I knew every quirk, I knew what it would do at 110mph on US65 north from Indianapolis last year even, he had room to grow even then...

but I had to let him go.  I can still feel the broken drivers seat I was too fat for it. I still reach for that stereo knob in the wrong place. I still pull into the wrong side to pump gas with my "new" ride. I miss my GM V6 with 100,000+ miles on it whooping the toejam out of my buddies 2003 Honda Accord off the line, AND 55 to 75 on the highway (even without kids in the car and driving reckless he could never touch me).

Here's my 1995 baby Mac

Had a recent scare with Bradley. A couple of tumors found during belly rub time. Turns out they were benign, and he will be around a little longer. Since he was adopted as an adult dog we have no real idea how old he is, but best guess is 10ish.

Bradley was actually adopted based on recommendations from this BBS.

it's the hardest part to deal with, in owning a pet...gone through it three times...but their lives they shared with us make it worth the pain.

That rough mac. It took me a long time to get a dog after my last one died because of the pain involved. But the dogs are already born, already going to die someday and all you can do is be the best friend possible in return and give them the best life in return for their loyalty and love and friendship and its all right. It sounds like you did just that.

The water dish thing reminds me of when my Shep walked into my bedroom when I lived in Toronto, looked at me and tilted his head a bit.  Without even thinking about it I went into the kitchen and got him some water which he drank and then went and laid down totally content.

Some friends were over and watched the entire thing and everyone was just stunned at how I knew he wanted water, it wasn't as if the head tilt thing was something he did regularly at all....just that one time.  I couldn't explain it either, somehow I just knew he wanted water.

After I had to put him down for months afterwards I would arrive home and very carefully open my front door because when he was alive he'd be right there and I would have to be careful not to slam him with the door as I opened it.
