RIP Tim Russert

pretending to be something you are not (fair and even) is not a "sidenote" to a life's body of work and is indeed relevant to me.

It kept me from watching the guy as it keeps me from watching all the talking heads.

I would 100 times rather listen to an admitted right winger or an admitted left winger than russert or the current crop of phony talking heads all pretending they have no agenda.

then unfortunately....it also kept you from many good interviews .... including some where he ripped dems to shreds....

I still think there was a lot more to like about the man.........what he held important........and the way in which he talked about it....
his politics aside...he was a good man...and a good american.  I urge you to read one of his books......

when I seen him rip democrats apart it always seemed it was because they weren't fighting the good liberal socialist fight well enough.. hardly the same thing.    I could not avoid seeing the guy from time to time but every time I did it left me with a bad taste.

I don't know the man at all.. to me.. all he is is his politics... what he says.   And that part..  just made him look dishonest and wrong.   What he held to be important were liberal socialist ideals so that would mean there was nothing for me to like.   I also think that the only good American is one who is a constitutional and minimalist government one so.. "good American" did not apply to him so far as I am concerned.

Like I said..  I do not wish a death on anyone but the fact that he no longer is interjecting his politics on people while claiming neutrality is...   a good thing.

Russert was an excellent moderator that treated both sides of the fence equally.

Agreed. Russert seemed to be one of the most neutral people in regards to politics. His excitement for politics often rubbed off on his audience. He will be missed.

it amazes me that people are ignoring the content of his character .......as a human being and american......and choosing to talk about what party he belonged to. because that's the real story with tim.

the guy came from nothing.......and ended up making something of himself.  he came from a dark damp depressed town called buffalo new york.....his dad fought the good fight in world war two.......and he put himself through college by booking bands...and then into law school.  all he ever talked about was the importance of the church in his life........and loving his family deeply.....

first and foremost....those are the things I think about when I think about tim russert... he was a good american.....and he knew what that meant.  I could be biased......because my story is EXACTLY the same......except after law school I stayed in the entertainment business....and he went into politics and then media.  perhaps it's something you can only appreciate if you come from buffalo.......but I hope not.

After listening to his son on the Today show, by any measure of success Russert was at the top. It takes a strong will and a big heart to raise a son as well spoken, level headed and loving as that kid. Russert did the important things very well.

LOL..  you do notice that the only people here who get all wet and gushy about how "fair and balanced" he is are the total slavishly liberal here.

zeta.. I don't know if he is a "good American" or not.. any more than you do.. your father serving in WWII does not make you one.   acting like the bad guy in an Ayn Rand novel does not make you one.   going to school does not make you one.   What about him made him a "good American" to you?

I think that you would call the contestants on american idol "good Americans" too based on your value system.

You can't talk about if a person is a good or bad American and then say his politics are off limits.    I fail to see any reason to like the guy.   No matter how many liberals cry over his death.. it doesn't make him more of a good American.   the reptile man carville wept openly over the death.   that should give you a hint.

You will notice that there are threads I stay away from.   It is because I know nothing of the subject or it holds no interest for me.
