I wasnt in the army so I'll leave it to others to access your service record. I myself would have to see your 214 and other records to believe anything you say. Thats what constant trouble making and insults have done for you. But you still dont get it do you?

Strange, I wasnt aware we had any US Army bases in Greece and I cant find any record of one using the Internet. Maybe he was in one of those top secret type units. :uhoh

I always thought our military presence in Greece, Turkey, and Spain, was always limited to USAF and maybe USN. There is one exception, and one systems exception. But I dont believe PATRIOT was deployed in Greece and Turkey until the late '90s.

I was in from '72 to '75. I spent time in Germany, Denmark, Norway and Greece. Think....NATO. :)

Valdals,

I hope you eventually recover from the wounds you received as a result of the numerous blanket parties of which you were no doubt the guest of honor. I can't believe you even had the gall to reply after widewings post. Dense man, dense!

Geez son, I was a history major, United States Studies, with a minor in Military History. I served in the US Navy, logging over 2,300 flight hours totaled on the "yellow sheets". I have 332 traps aboard fleet carriers. I crewed the last operational sortie of a US Navy amphibian in 1976 (out of GTMO). Since 1996, I have worked with the Navy and Army developing new small arms systems, spending countless hours on military ranges testing weapons. I am lead Project Engineer for these systems, working for CIRCOR Aerospace.

In point of fact, I just returned from severals of meetings with Senatorial staff, brass at the Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security, showing and demonstrating new technology for the M4/M16 family of rifles and carbines. In July, I'll be at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana to test SOCOM's (Special Operations Command) new SCAR battle rifles (Mk16 and Mk17). This is only a small fraction of my dealing with the military. Next week, we will be testing a brace of Sig P229s for DHS.

I work with military personnel every day, most of them senior officers.

In this game, there are WWII veterans, Korean War vets, Vietnam vets and a boat load of Gulf War, Iraqi Freedom and Afghan vets. We have Mace, a career F-14 pilot, graduate of Top Gun and the Navy Test Pilot School. We have Hammer, a career Army Officer, who recently retired. Overall, there are hundreds, if not thousands of military veterans who play this game or have played in the past. Many of these gents were on the pointy end of the spear, in harms way for months at a time.

To claim that your experience is sufficient to grant you the privilege of castigating fellow players is utter nonsense. This isn't war, it's recreation. It's entertainment after a hectic day. The last thing most of us want to listen to is a another self-appointed Field Marshal telling us how we should expend our limited recreational time.

Thus, even if your grand daddy was Omar Bradley, we don't want to listen to your rants. Your military experience, commendable as it is, has no bearing on a game, nor does it provide you additional status as a player.

My regards,

Widewing

On a serious note, thank you for your service. Prior military member or not really doesn't have a bearing in this game. A lot of us AH players are former, or still active military service members. GO 88!

Hey Widewing,

Thank you for your service to your Uncle.   :salute

Also, beyond the obvious, thank you for typing all of that and saving me the time it would have taken to make such a statement  :)

we were defending a base in the orange arena this morning it was 4 against 10 to 15 nits. our vh was down. i had to spawn in from another base in a wirble. i got some kills but was bombed big time.  problem ; no other rooks tried to spawn wirbles to defend the town and field. the support from other bases in the air was coming in one at a time. thats nuts 11 on 1 in the air. with coordinated effort we could have held that base for hours. if the tables were reversed the nits would have held that base for a week. rook start working together and fighting smart.

Last night Knights put up an awsome defense. With both rooks and bish hitting us in force on all fronts at the same time. At one point I counted 3 bases on bish/rook front flashing and 9 knight bases flashing. Still we held most of our bases and the ones that we lost we killed a pile of attackers.

We used to operate for short periods out of Souda Bay, Crete. Usually this was associated with NATO exercises, or in support of 6th Fleet carrier ops. We also spent some time flying from USAF bases in Turkey. All of this circa the late 1970s.

We operated off of Saratoga, but did fly hardware and people on and off other CVs. Nimitz being the most common. I believe it was Eisenhower that relieved Saratoga to begin her first Med cruise after about a year of work ups and shakedown.
