Combat AI's in FSO take over?
« on: June 17, 2008, 07:49:20 AM »
In FSO last time, I disco'd with what I thought was atleast 5 kills, I was so mad. How about your plane just turns into a Combat AI and when you re-log, your flying. And when you disco, it'll say automatically in squad message (1pLUs44 has disco'd) and then the AI will take over. If you are in a fight, it'll hit the deck and run so it doesnt do stupid stuff with lets say a zeke or something. Then when I logg back on, I can just take over where I was. Kinda like in CT, but advance it. PLEASE HTC!!

Don't know how hard/how it could be implemented, but it sounds like a fine idea.

I really wanna see this going in. I know Disco's can be very annoying, and people with slower internet can keep playing FSO.

Your asking for AI to take over control of your plane so that when you disco you can get BACK into it after you reconnect?

ROFLMAO

First off, fix your isp/disco problem. Don't ask for impossible fixes to what is really your problem.

Second, anytime you connect to AH you have to start from scractch. Trying to reconnect to a plane thats been stooging around while your disco'd is a networking nightmare. REALLY!

It Ain't Going To Happen In This Life.

A disconnect is a disconnect, you disconnected from the AH server, you are GONE, lost in space. There is nothing they can do to fix that. Once you disco, your plane explodes. (trust me you do NOT want unmanned planes stoging around all over) This is all as it should be.

Beyond that, even if they COULD do it, (which they can't) it wouldn't be allowed in FSO.
1 life event, you disco after the cutoff and your done, period.

Get a better ISP or fix the problem you have.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but arent they doing that in CT? Thats gonna be full of players and lots are gonna be disco'ing. They may as well try it in FSO to see how it works. The Combat AI's are kinda hard to beat in the Offline missions.  ;)

My ecperience has found its not even the ISP problem . ITS a driver problem on the NIC card belonging to the PC if not that the actual setting on teh NICs properties

You may want to go to the TA.

I still have my stall limiter off, remember that. Things are alot harder now for me. Every little move I make sends me in a spin...

(AI's are only hard when they are out maneuvering your P-51 in their 190 A8s...)

I'd read in the faq on the forum that that was the intent - but as a programmer I can tell you that oftimes the design specifications end up being pared down - sometimes dramatically - by final implementation.

So yes, if it's (actually) implemented in CT it's reasonable to ask that it might be implemented in the MA, with appropriate settings.

I wouldn't suggest MA though, too many things in too many places to worry about. With FSO, they only gotta do it once a week.

Yes they are working on AI for CT, you can see the current state of it in the new offline missions.

Which btw have Major problems with

A groups of planes over 24 in number.

B Bombers behaiving like bombers

C Dive bombers diving before release

Last, again, there is no way they can take your plane after you leave, put AI in charge of it.
And even if they could, there is no way you could get back INTO it again.

Any part of any of this would require virtually a full rewrite of all the networking coad.
Plus a huge part of the AH main coad.

Just so you don't lose your place when you disco.
Find and fix the disco problem, its by far the easier solution.

Please see my offline mission in this thread (scroll up to see the plane list):

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,237370.msg2876403.html#msg2876403

There are over 100 aircraft in this mission, it works fine, and it's essentially a large furball.  A few timing problems, but I'm working on them.

There is now a box to tick to allow/disallow planes from dogfighting (i.e. make them act like bombers and shoot back with their turrets).

You're right about point C though.

In this thread about CT  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,162037.0.html Pyro indicates that all that is (or at least was one time) intended for implementation with CT.

Quote
Q: What happens if I disco?
A: If you disconnect or intentionally leave, AI will take over your plane.  When you come back, you can take back control of your plane.  If your plane is shot down in your absence, that still counts against you.  If you leave a mission or disco, you can only come back to the mission you left.  You cannot join another mission until the mission that you are part of has ended or you have been shot down.

So it seems not unreasonable to me to presume that some version of that might be possible for non-scripted play in other arenas such as the MA, or the SEA as requested.  (for example, perhaps the AI takes over your aircraft and pilots it in a non-combative, non-evasive manner toward an auto-landing it at the closest base at some reasonable throttle setting.)

I agree though, best to fix the disco if at all possible - but it's not always possible.

It could be done I bet, but it's not my job to argue with somebody who WORKS for HTC.  :noid  :aok
