a little help with re arming...
« on: June 18, 2008, 05:30:57 AM »
sometimes after i re arm my plane is faceing the building so it gets stuck and i have to tower.

how bout after you re arm... the game centers you on the runway...

in real life you would have guys on the ground helping you and you would even be able to go in reverse. making pilots do all the work doesnt need to be in the game. :aok

Get some practice. If you can't successfully rearm a Lancaster bomber you need to work on your ground handling :)

On Carriers you can go in "reverse". Drop all flaps and put your throttle up just a wee bit.

Cut across the grass, so your looking at both the rearm pad and the end of the runway.

Do NOT nose into the rearm pad, all you need is 1 wheel on the painted pad. Stop, rearm, a bit of throttle, left brake, and left rudder puts you back on the taxiway, ready for your turn to runway.

Like everything else in AH, its not broken, it just takes a plan, and practise.

Like everyone has said (and I say it, too), practice ground taxiing. Look at where you go before you go there.

If you aren't already doing it, when you are on the ground use the F3 view.  I also usually hit F3 then F8 and rotate my view so I am looking slightly down on my plane.  It's a lot easier to see where you are going that way.

The flaps are unnecessary. It's a throttle + rpm limit.

I put RPMs to minimum and throttle to max to roll back.

Flaps do work though...

I will have to try your method,,,

It does take practice.  Learn to use stearing brakes with your rudder and you'll be well on your way...

In fact I saw a guy in the MA the other night land an AR-234 on a Carrier turn 180 degrees rearm turn another 180 degrees and take of again...he did this several times that night.  Maybe take one of your favorite rides to the TA or Offline and practice a bit

Actually you can only do that on moving carriers, none moving carries you cant back up on.

I just wish the F4U's were a little easer, if you get it landed without tearing a wing off i seem to tear it off trying to take off again! :cry

Flaps always seem, at least for me, to backup a little faster, though I have done it without flaps.

Yes, I forgot to add that in...sorry long night.

Which carriers don't move?  :)

The CV is moving forward at 35-40mph depending on what it's doing.

That means you have that much wind passing around you as you sit on the deck.

Lowering full flaps is a giant airbrake and will push you backwards faster than if you tried it without these sails.

The planes in AH have wheel brakes that automatically kick in below a certain throttle setting. You have to throttle up just enough to turn that off (allowing you to roll backwards) but not enough to actually produce forward motion. It's a small window, but easy to reach with practice.
