It's wierd, he lives in Texas too. I'd understand this somewhere else but Texas?!?  :noid

Wow, Texas has really changed since I was last there. Back then you could drink in your car while driving down the street, and they had drive through liquor stores.

couple things.. you don't know what would have happened to him if he was or wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

i've been in 2 accidents where i DO know what would've happened if i hadn't been wearing my belt.
1) head on(dam those friggin HO'rs!) with a saturn. i was in an 89 mustang gt...no airbag. without seatbelt, i'd have been impersonating superman as i went through the windshield.

2)94 mistubishi galant. on admiral wilson blvd in camden otw philly. kid ""pitted" us, the back end hit the curb, then whipped around and hit the curb again going backwards, launched in the air, landed on the d/s door, slid for a bit, then rolled. we were both hanging there from our seatbelts with the only injuries being kim's 2 broken fingernails, and a bad run in her hose :O  i do seriously believe we'd have both been flung around inside that car rather badly without the seatbelts.

What laz said...You should have the option of not wearing a seatbelt and pay a premium for it..Same with helmets.

death could be a fairly high premium, dontcha think?

cap... unless you are god.. you do NOT know what would have happened.. you can take a good guess but that is all you can do.

As for death being a premium?   what the hell do you care?   Are you saying that my death or not is so important to you that you are willing to restrict my freedom of choice?   you don't know me or give a damn about me... and you shouldn't.   It is none of your business..  I will probly pee on your grave in any case because..  I learned how to drive.    while you feel that the best way to stay safe is to armor yourself from the wrecks you will get in.. My choice is to not get in the damn wreck in the first place.

But that is not the point.. the point is that it is none of your business if my behavior does not cause you any danger or.. no reasonable danger.

So I ask.. what do you care if I risk my life or not?

course the thought of getting hit head on at 60 miles per hour and me flying through a windshield and then skidding on the ground and dying kinda makes me wanna wear my seatbelt...

The word "Public" needs to be clarified as it's way to broad now days. It's just like how they've cracked down on smoking in public buildings. You can't smoke in a bar/restaurant because it's a PUBLIC place......wait isn't that a private business?

When the tax payers start paying my bills to operate my business then it becomes a public place, until then it's private and you have the "choice" to come in and do business and deal with what goes on there. You don't like smoking? Fine stay the hell out of my bar/restaurant!

That cop IMO way overstepped his and your rights there as he had not been called or dispatched on a complaint about you drinking in your yard. Had you, as he was driving by, displayed some type of strange behavior, then IMO he would have had a reason to stop and possibly warn or arrest you for public intoxication.

cap..  I support your right to wear a seatbelt.

I will even go so far as to say I support a law that makes it illegal to register a car that does not have em provided.

I would even let you climb hills or swim even though the guy I saw who fell 75 feet down a cliff face was not pretty and I have seen several people who have drowned.. one was days old.. not pretty.

Do as you wish so far as risking your own life or health.   It is none of my frigging business.

well, because although i've never met ya,  like to think that if i did, i might like ya, and i don't like seeing people i like get hurt from carelessness, or stupidity. i don't really agree with them being law, but i do think they're the smart choice. as for learnign to drive? those are the only 2 i've not managed to avoid. i've been driving since i was 17, drag racing since i was 18, and am generally an excellent driver. i learned to drive from some old guy that was excellent..namely my grandfather.

and no, i'm not God..but just using common sense, what do you think would've happened to me without my seatbelt in the headon? i was doing 45, and i imagine she was doing the same. that's basicly the equivilant of hitting a wall at 90mph. remember my car didn't have airbags.

know something that's funny? a few that don't like to wear their seatbelts in their cars, don't even think twice about putting them on in their airplanes. :D

anyway, don't be so pissy...i didn't mean to offend ya dude! smile, cheer up, and if i die before you do, i'll make sure it gets posted here where i'm buried so ya can pee on me grave. :D

I'm with Laz on this one.  We have let so many 'little' laws get passed that are 'there to protect us' that practically anybody can be cited for anything.  I don't smoke and am, in fact, allergic to cigarette smoke.  When I used to go to night clubs I knew I was going to have to deal with the environment I was headed to.  Same with seat belts.  I know they are safety devices but I think it should be my CHOICE to wear one or not.  People are going to have to err on the side of the freedoms that this country was founded on and realize that every now and then life is going to jump up and take a healthy one out of the herd.  You want to go rock climbing without safety gear?  Okay but if you die or get injured to the point that you can't take care of yourself don't expect the government or the person that owns the land where you were rock climbing to write you a big fat check for being stupid.  Quite honestly I'd probably be thankful that the gene pool just got a little cleaner.
