Alternate the nubbies!
« on: June 24, 2008, 03:03:00 AM »
I'm not just saying this because I'm a Rook....but it seems that the Rooks get all the new guys just starting the game. If I'm not mistaking when you start your automatically put in the Rooks. Me and some my squaddies watched a numbers guy tonight try to fly and it was like watching a TRAIN WRECK, you just couldn't  stop watching. The poor guy just had no clue to what the the heck was going on and to make matters worse would not except our help!!  :rofl

Cajun they are sir.

Everyone used to start as bishop, so you got mass raids of nik's and tiffys. Not true anymore.

Now first time pilots coming into an arena are defaulted to the country with the lowest numbers.

Hmm... I thought it was only knights...

When I started tour 78 as buddyr, I was knight
Then when I was Plus44, I was knight
Then when I went to 1pLUs44, I was knight, but went bishop.  :aok

Its almost to the point where you cant run NOE missions cause of the noobs blowing it. And its not like any of us wouldnt help the guy get his skills together enough to fly in a mission. Probably most of us would be more then happy to.

But when numbered accounts flying two free weeks can ruin a mission made up of dozens who have been with the game for years?? When that can happen like it does then there is a serious problem.

The answer is simple. Dont allow the 2 weekers to "join mission" unless the mission C/O allows it. Even better allow the mission C/O control over whos in the mission overall.

It's irritating, but its worth considering that inexperienced pilots "blew" quite a few missions in the Second World War or got experienced pilots killed, especially as the supply of experienced German/Japanese pilots began to dry up and all the front-line units got sent was barely trained cannon fodder.

Even inexperienced Ill bet they knew how to fly in a straight line while under 500'. Learning to do so in this game is a one hour course with a 30 min lunch in the middle. If a noob isnt willing to go that far then why do we "have to" allow them in the missions?

Hi Rich,

Actually, according to guys like Rudel, sustained NOE is some of the most stressful and difficult stuff flying you can do. In Operation Bodenplatte, many of the "nubies" augured or failed to find their targets. Wiki notes the following:

Quote
Another problem was the fact that many of the Luftwaffe pilots were very poor marksmen and lacked flight skills. By late 1944 there were no safe areas in which pilots could be trained without the possibility of air attack. Aviation fuel supplies were at a premium and there was a lack of experienced instructors. Many of the training units (eg JG 104) were forced to fly front-line operations in order to bolster the front-line Jagdgeschwader. Allied personnel who witnessed the attacks frequently remarked on the poor aim of the strafing aircraft, and many of the Luftwaffe aircraft shot down by Allied anti-aircraft fire were caught because they were flying too slow and too high. Wing Commander Johnnie Johnson:

"The shooting was atrocious, and the circuit at Evere reminded us of more of a bunch of beginners on their first solos than pilots of front-line squadrons."

But I understand your point, you want some means of limiting involvement in a mission, the answer might be some sort of "invitation only" system so that only those who have been invited to do so join.

I've been seeing a lot more number guys in Bish lately.

Several months ago I had just spawned into the arena and there was some guy trying to get a P-51D up.  He'd sit and spin in circles at the end of the runway then .ef and try again.  Then he must have gotten frustrated and started spinning in circles firing his guns.  Then he finally got the rudder figured out, went down the runway, lost control and crashed into a hanger and sat there emptying his guns into the dirt.  You're right.  I couldn't stop watching from the tower.

I did try to offer help but he must not have had the radio figured out either.  Anyway, it was funny as h@ll.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Well...you are "mistaking". HT has stated more than once that it's random. It isn't HTC's fault if the rooks are simply great Noob magnets!!! :rofl

I had a suggestion a while back that took an entirely different tact.  Why not have a room where experienced pilots begin the month with one life, and the new guys get unlimited lives.  I think that would be interesting.  A sort'a see how long the fighter jocks can survive against the nubbies.  It would be fun just to look at the Roster and see how many kills they got before they caught one.
I don't know what the cut off number would be.  Possibly any score under 1,000 the previous month would make you an experienced pilot, or, say over 50 kills.  The exact number is negotiable.
Isn't this the way it happens in a REALWar ?  Experienced pilots are irreplacable, arn't they ?  You could even put a cap on how many new guys can fly for a country side based on a percentage of how much of their original territory they can manage to hold onto.  Less territory, less fliers.
Now there's a room I'd like to see.  I think it would be an interesting contest.
