Perk Ships
« on: June 24, 2008, 11:20:11 AM »
Before I make my request, I'd like to thank the HT team that did the updates to the Ships in the game. The work on the fleet has been a huge improvement in game play and the overall aesthetics of AH2.

Along those lines, now that we have Destroyers with manned 5 inch guns, what I'd love to see is the ability to spawn an individual destroyer at ports and at the PT spawn points.

Obviously you'd need to add a "bridge" to these spawned destroyers (with the throttle tied to a bridge telegraph, etc), but little else would need to be changed.

As I see it; the destroyer would be a perk vehicle, similar to the Tiger in value. They would be easily spotted as player vehicles rather than part of a fleet by a "DD" icon (similar to the "PT" icon). Their addition would create more naval elements in the game and would allow us to do historical "Narvik" and "Tokyo Express" scenarios etc.

Thoughts?

That would Keep them knuckle heads from bringing a CV right to shore......Hummmmm No it wouldn't because they do that with shore battery! I'd rather 5" guns at shore bases! :aok

If it spawns with 5 inch guns and the ability to take a gunner, give it 200 perk value. that thing can pretty much level a whole field/town, and can vulch a field if close enough.

make them The Atlanta class cruisers were United States Navy light cruisers designed originally as flotilla leaders but which ended up gaining recognition as effective anti-aircraft cruisers during World War II. With eight dual 5" gun mounts (six centerline), the first run of Atlanta class cruisers had by far the heaviest anti-aircraft broadside of any warship of World War II, at over 17,600 pounds (10,560 kg) per minute of highly-accurate, radar-fuzed VT ordnance. The later ships omitted the two wing mounts, reducing the overall broadside but improving firing arcs.

The lead ship, USS Atlanta (CL-51) was laid down on 22 April 1940, launched on 6 September 1941, and commissioned at the New York Navy Yard on 24 December 1941.

or for less perks
The Andromeda class attack cargo ships were built by Federal Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. in Kearny, New Jersey and Moore Dry Dock Co., in Oakland, California;during World War II. The armament was 1x5" 4x 40mm 16x 20mm

because our cruisers have 8'' guns that can level a town in about 10 minutes. A destroyer OR cruiser with only 5'' guns and 20mm guns would do.

'Cause they were "anti aircraft cruisers" which is what I thought was being asked for.
