Some people just have a different understanding of pain.

Some people faint at the sight of blood or are scared of needles..... Some people like to watch it all happen.

If your idea of pain is nothing serious then the ends justify the means in this case. It's not anything big or psychological, it's just a different attitude.

Thanks so much for the great link! After the first 75 images, you have to register as a subscriber ~ which I am going to do today.  If they don't have the picture I'm looking for, they'll come pretty darn close. That site has lots! :) Thanks again!

Dred, my intention with the photo was never, at any point, for me to consider getting as a tattoo.  I already know what 20 years does to one... and no thanks! :)

first let me say this is a great "metaphor"

ill try to use the same

when i was ready to paint the "plane" I got it all ready for flight, well once i started to "paint" the "plane" it decided it did not like being "painted" so it when back into the hanger,( i mean way worse than jumping into the ocean on a December day), so i forced the "plane" out of the hanger, held on to that corsair, and finished the "Painting".

i think if someone else's "plane" enjoys being "painted" they need serious psychiatric help.

to say that it was uncomfortable, is quit the understatement.

but like any "painting" its about overcoming the pain.  oh and the "painting" took me an hour, felt like 20.

Excellent follow up- had me rollin'. :rofl

I'm getting a tatoo on my knuckles that either says my initials or "Self Made" And after that, a giant American Flag across my back. :)

i know you dont know me, but let me try to explain why you should NOT and i mean NOT do what you propose here.

when i was 18 i got my left hand tattooed, a cool looking skull ripping through the hand personally i love it, BUT it will effect you for as long as you live, if you have your knuckles done, for instance when i was 23 i heard of a job at a screen printing company they wanted an artist, so i bring my artwork in for them to have a look, know when i say i'm an artist i don't joke, i have been drawing my entire life and there is nothing i cant draw, but when this person who did my interview all she saw was my tattooed hand, she did not really look at my art, she did, but all that was in her sight was my tattooed hand, she ever so politely said "the job is filled"
this was the first of MANY discriminations against me!     if you get this tat on your hand you seal your fate!   try going into a Lamborghini dealership to sell cars HA they will laugh at you, most very high end jobs you will not be able to get, you will live to regret the decision's you make now, forever, i have been tattooing sinse 1988, trust me when i say this.
now for all you doubting mustafas, out there who know so many "artists"
now mind you i only have paintings and tattoos(and pics of the family) on this space, i wish i had my pencil drawings up but alas i don't, i have been painting for about 6 years, but drawing in pencil, my entire life.  take a look at what i can do, and see for yourself. under the avatar is a link for pics, i have different albums one for tats one for paintings, bla bla bla, the avatar is a painting i did, its a self portrait, its actually the largest painting iv done so far its 4 by 6 (approx)
my point in all this is to impress upon you that i do know what im talking about (when it comes to this), and to stop you from making one of the worst decisions  you can make! alright enough of me rambling.

LOL ya there are no "bad" pics.

i recently left the shop that i built for these supposed "christens"  but once the shop was up and running they proved to me all they cared about was making as much money as they could, and had absolutely no morels, so after two years of dealing with these people i couldn't take it any more and left.
so no im not in a shop, i do tat parties at a buddies house, i have some very loyal clients, that wont allow any one else to ink them, but i do wish i could open my own shop, but i don't see that ever happening.

Tats are a personal thing.
To each his own.
If you want a tat, give it quite a bit of thought as to just what you desire. Once you decide, go for it.
To hell with what anyone else`s opinions are. It is yours and your choice.
If someone has a problem with my tats then that`s a pretty good indicator for me that I wouldn`t waste my time with them. Opinions are like....
....well you get the picture. Some just stink more than others. :)
As far as tat artist goes, they are just like everyone else in any field. There are some good ones, some who totaly suck and some great ones.
Some can just about do any line of tat work and do. Some specialize. Know your artist and his work beforehand.
I met Lyle Tuttle in South Dakota at Sturgis few years back while I was getting a memorial tat for my Dad.
A down to earth guy that just happens to be an icon in the tat field.
I`ve met unheard of artists in some of the most backwoods, offtrack places that totaly R O C K E D.
I`ve seen artists in some of the most touted and glitter filled environments and shops that couldn`t tat Tweety Bird without screwing it up and vice versa .
Common sense goes a long way when choosing an artist.

Texmom, try this website. As far as an online source for photos of tattoos this one is pretty hard to beat.
BMEInk - http://www.bmezine.com/tattoo/bme-tatt.html
I appreciated the link~ I wasn't able to subscribe ~ choice was either make a payment to the site... or post pictures of your own tattoos.  I appreciate all of your comments! Instead of a picture of an awesome coral snake tattoo, I posted a boring 'ole photograph of the snake instead.  Tattoo would have been far more awesome. Oh well, maybe next time.  :aok

While we're on the subject, I've had this in mind for a couple of years. A back piece focusing on a Fw 190 D9 attached to Galland's JV 44 and a 109 G-10 or K over a German airfield at the end of the war.

I came across this and it is very similar to what I have in mind:

The trick is to find an artist who can do what I want without making it look cartoonish like it is in that painting.

I haven't got access to a myspace account at the moment but from what's on your front page there is some outstanding work there.

Perhaps, some time in the future, I could email you with my ideas (which are not are not put onto paper or photoshop file clearly enough yet) and pay you to do the artwork?

Given that I live on the other side of the world I'll have a hard time actually getting to you but having the artwork would be a great place to start. I was really keen to have the artwork done by someone who knows about WWII aircraft and that is proving to be rather difficult.

I doubt that it will be any time soon, I'm still grappling with the decision as it will be my first tattoo. As far as the tattoo itself goes, it's probably the only thing I'll ever want and I'm no stranger to other forms of body mods, so I'm just concerned with actually having a tattoo. Scars fade, piercings can be removed but tattoos are for life and, as much as I know that I will never regret the subject of the tattoo, I may well end regretting getting a tattoo with so much coverage later in life.

Too bad you're not close to me ink, I need a tat redone that I had someone start last year and royally f'ed up. In the process of searching for a true artist (thought I had one last year).

Ink is also right. I have tats, but you can't see them when I am at work. As a manager and a tat wearer, it's not appropriate to on some jobs to have certain piercings or visible tats.
