I'm mucho glad a stunning number of younger folks than me (47) are turning on and tuning in...to Zepp.  They are by far my fav band and they have been since I was 12...their manager....peter grant...was my hero as a kid..and I was fortunate enough to meet him several times prior to him passing.  peter grant changed the way bands got paid..and took the bulk of the gate from the promoters...and gave it to the bands.

The one thing I get a kick out of is seeing young kids walking around the malls and stores and whatnot with the official Zeppelin 77' Tour T-Shirt....  I've told a few of the kids wearing them that I saw that tour...and some of them actually freak out....I still have 4 original tpoops from it in mint condition..(the original shirts had sparkel stuff in the lettering) along with 2 ticket stubs...and one full ticket that was never used from the dreaded tampa stadium riot show. I got to see two of the shows on that tour....and to this day...it ranks up there with some of my all time biggest thrills.

You're really doing yourself a disservice by only listening to the music of the past 10-15 years.
Rock & Roll has been around for over 40 years and theres great stuff spanning that entire period.
I grew up listening to alternative rock/pop rock/punk rock of the late 90's/early '00''s, mainly Green Day (as I'm less than proud to admit today :lol)
A couple years ago one of my friends got me into Iron Maiden... very good music... browsed around a bit more... Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, AC/DC... all lots of cool music. Stayed in the late 70's/early 80's for the most part (I don't like much music past the mid-80's honestly). Even more recently I got into some even earlier music, some of the bands that really laid down the foundations of Rock. The Who, Cream, Pink Floyd, and especially Led Zeppelin. I love Led Zeppelin. Really unique, interesting stuff. Jimmy Page is an awesome guitar player and Robert Plant is an amazing vocalist.
I've never been able to get really into punk, as by definition it is very simplistic... and I like complicated music.
Couldn't agree more Motherland. :aok As I grew older, I also discovered that music wasn't magically "invented" the same year I got my first stereo. I also think that pretty much everything past the mid-80's blows. (Thank you MTV ) Pete Townsend once said that The Who would never make it starting out in today's music industry, because the band was too ugly. I wonder how many other great new bands we'll never know about because of this mentality.

In closing, I'll throw out a few more bands for consideration:

Early Blue Oyster Cult (before "Don't Fear the Reaper")
Early Kansas (before "Dust In the Wind")
Nazareth (everybody should own a copy of "Hair Of The Dog")
The Alan Parsons Project
Pink Floyd (right up there with Zep)
ELP

Lately, I've been cranking Mahogany Rush. :aok

Thank goodness my parents raised me on 60's - 80's rock :)  Oldies & classic rock.  The punk was something I listened to.

With the religious discussion I've been dabbling in here today I'm digging something brutal and theological so Deathspell Omega's 'Kenose' EP and this particular song 'At the Left Hand Ov God' by Behemoth:

I had to balance out all the bible discussion with a solid dose of Satanism and brutality.  :lol  :rock

There is some beautiful scenery in the film clip, though.

I think anything Pre-80's blows straight out.  Just because it's old doesn't mean it's good.
